  • SP540v & Pop Up Panels – advice needed, please?

    Hi All

We have just installed our first large format solvent printer a SP540v, fully reconditioned from a major supplier etc, so as good as it can be.

One of our larger clients had an urgent need for some panels to be printed for his existing pop-up mechanism, we have done the design and artwork before, but he always sourced the print. Done this weekend

So each panel was 673mm x 2225mm, printed from versaworks using the tile feature with a slight overlap, printed on Hyrdosol 385. All went well, until we attempted to align the panels along the lengths, where we discovered a 3-5mm misalignment of the graphic. The graphic had a solid band at the top and bottom, when aligning the top the bottom was out etc.

Problem for us is that the previous companies prints (which we did the design for) are 100% on

So my question is, can this be corrected so it is very close or I am working against the kit I have which cannot print to this tolerance etc. I would presume this is slippage when the substrate is being fed

Our client hasn’t complained has such, but has passed comment.

    So any advise please

    Hi Mike,

Movement in the machine is possible but it’s more likely to be your trimming, how did you trim the panels?

No it wasn’t the trimming as we didn’t print bleed top and bottom, the two rules run across horizontally in the design.

So the bottom rule on panel 2 which is about 10 inches from the bottom, didn’t align with the same rule on panel 3 etc

If it was just a case of trimming the solid off we would have done that to compensate.

    Hi
make sure your machine and room is up to temperature when you print your first panel and keep it the same through out the printing. Print 1 panel and cut off do not print all and use take up roll as additional weight can stretch material

    Hope his helps

    Hi Kev

We don’t have a take up roller, so each panel was printed one at a time, over different days.
