I’m sure it did. In the papers yesterday it said one of the mills major customers had gone into administration recently. Sad news for all those affected.

Such a shame as places like that can and probably will affect whole communities

Kind of a double Blow for Glenrothes Ewan, few days before the Tillis Russell anouncement Velux announced it was closing the Glenrothes plant with the loss of 180 jobs.
Fife already has a high unemployment rate so this isn’t going to help at all.

Hi Guys
I am based in Glenrothes and am aware of whats happening locally.
Velux has shut its manufacturing plant here although I think they are keeping its sales and marketing teams here.
Tullis Russell did state in one press release that Paperlinx was their major customer and had about 40% of their sales. Going bust themselves didnt do much good for their order book and the company was put up for sale about 6 months ago but they couldnt find a buyer.
They have been selling off land for posh houses for the last few years and a few months ago a massive biomass plant was opened a few months ago. Although its not owned by TR I am sure there must have been a deal to get cheap leccy and steam from the biomass plant. Seems this subsidy isnt enough to let them compete with the third world paper producers.
I did say to my son about 5 years ago that within 10 years the only thing down there would be the power plant. Unfortunately that has become true in about half that time.
The workers by the way didnt even get any redundancy pay I believe.
