  • Multiple Roland CM300 questions – help needed, please?

Being new in the business I am looking for starter equipment in the used area…

I noticed a CM300 for sale, I know it’s an older cutting plotter but seller claims it’s in excellent condition.
My computer does not have a serial or parallel port… Will the CM300 work off a USB to serial or USB to parallel adapter? (which type of adapter and any other hints are welcome)
What software will I need? Will it run from Versaworks?
(or even better, could I run it directly of my Mac? Again here, what software can I use?)

Any specific items I need to take a close look should I go and look at the CM300???

    Thanks!!!

If it’s reasonably close then yes best to go & look. that way you can ask to see it working & also see what sort of set up the seller has. maybe even pick his brains about drivers etc for it. Not a Roland user but as far as I know Versaworks is a rip for digital printing not a program for management of cut vinyl files.
Should work from a serial converter, best with an FDTI chipset & set the port up as a virtual serial port. Software well that depends largely on your budget & the sort of thing you want to do.
Plenty of mac users on the forum so maybe someone can offer more advice, not a mac user myself.

    Thanks Martin :thumbup2: ,

In the mean time a second one popped up so there are two I can look at, both at a stretched drive away so would kinda need to decide on the spot…
I would definitely do some tests, even take some of my vinyl to perform a few test cuts…
That’s why I’m trying to get as much info as I can… I guess anybody who owned one can tell me what could go wrong with it…
I know Versaworks is a rip s/w but as I run it anyways for my BN-20, and I was told I could use it for other Roland devices as well (seemed easy to keep all in one software)…
Curious if any mac users will reply…
