Having been a keen reader for a while now I have decided to register and hopefully contribute in some way.

    A brief background on myself
as a qualified plastered by trade initially I delved into the signwriting trade after growing frustrated at the lack of local companies willing to produce low quantity boards and signs for people like myself who were only after a few runs of sign boards and vinyl every few months.
what I tended to find was the companies willing to do what I needed were over inflating the prices so much to compensate I wasn’t keen on parting with the cash. I wasn’t expecting the earth and was willing to pay the going rates for small runs but quoted prices were very high

This led me to the point where I delved myself into setting up a small cutting setup which enabled me to do what I need and when I needed it.
I started by producing my own signage for my business which in turn led to other trade associates wanting things produced.
Anyway instead of rambling on as with everything this led to building up a fairly large chunk of work and my time which has in turn allowed me to upgrade the small basic setup I had into something a little larger and surprisingly to me bringing in quite a nice second stream of work.
So last year I took the decision to keep the apprentice on full time after he qualified and employing another experienced tradesmen, and go part time and concentrate a little more on seeing how I could get a little further in the signage game.

As I do both part time it allows me to explore other avenues in both trades and so far everything has gone very well.
I now quite successfully have a good size regular client base as well as new business coming in daily.

It’s been a tentative step as like I said previously I’m completely self taught in everything I have ever done in the sign trade (other than a friend actually being in the trade himself and retired due to Ill health)

That is partly one of the reasons I have waited so long to register here as I felt a little overwhelmed by the expertise of a lot of the members.

Anyway I have bit the bullet and done it and I am sure you have read enough about me by now so I will sign off with another hello and hopefully I can contribute to the boards in some way shape or form

Hi Damian, welcome to the boards :D. Interesting story you have there!

If you could also consider uploading a picture of yourself that would be great and if you do and are having difficulties, e-mail me at chris@uksignboards.com

    Thanks Chris

I will get a picture uploaded when I have a minute and can find one
it certainly is a intriguing story and came to me completely out of the blue

It was only ever intentioned to be for my own personal things but just got a bit bigger than I expected and could no longer get things done in an evening

Long days take their toll in the end

So I chose the path I’m on now it gives me the opportunity to see if I can make it in this trade without having to go sh** or bust initially
