  • PC Spec for Versaworks – advice needed please?

Posted by Mike Thornley on 23 March 2015 at 21:57

We have just ordered our first large format printer today a SP540v from Signmaster.

We work on Applemacs, so need a PC to run Versaworks etc. We have an old PC that used to run a contract proofer with a GMG rip, it still works ok, but before I spend more £, I am trying to find out if my existing PC will run Versaworks OK.

The spec is a Intel (R) Celeron R 2.4Ghz with 512mb of Ram and running windows XP

I know very little about PC’s, being a committed mac user, so anyone with advise please most welcome.

Thanks for that, I will check it out at the show.
Just be a case of when it will ship for mac and if its and extra cost.

Just enquired, the software is only a demo and so far no release date and its not versaworks, its something else.
Sounds like standard printer rip software.

It will be released soon but the fact they have made something for the Apple operating system has made me very happy 🙂 its also has some nice new features currently not in versaworks. Stretching jobs, alto grommet locations etc loads more just a few off memory 🙂

No PC just VMfusion running windows 7 in unity mode straight from my mac. Runs seamlessly and allows drag & drop straight into it. As a bonus I can run Coral on the same machine.

Alex I would still need windows to install on mac and vmfusion.

I did think this bit wondered how well it ran?? I shave the latest MacBook 2.8ghz and sometimes the latest equipment runs crap until full bugs are ironed out.

May look into it as my dell i5 laptop top spec only year old used just as a rip is slowed right down. Can’t see why loads of space?

I run parallels and have Corel n cutters running from it.
I do though keep a laptop that is just for the printer, but would be able to run printer from parallels too… I save all my files on the mac from Parallels… The virtual machine got a ‘ransom’ malware on it once when i didn’t put a antivirus on, I just deleted the vm and made up another. It would be great to have a mac version of corel…as really thats the only real reason I have it.
