hi I’ve had canon and xerox machines, there good most of the sample you see are great, its about the click charges and the lease charges, the samples from xpress are very good but these machines are just rebadged either xerox machines or oce printers, I’ve had a lot of problems with printers with xerox and canon, I would never touch another machine, we just farm it all out now, no click charges no lease charges = happy bunny 🙂

Hi Gary thanks for the reply, i was looking to buy one outright, i also like the ideal of not having to wait on other people, if you don’t mind me asking what kind of problems did you come across

    Thanks Danny

xpress do they charge a click charge or are you just buying the consumables direct from them, if so do you know your cost per copy @SRA3 is, its all about coverage If you buy your own toner, if you get a click charge the repairs / service is included, if not your printer will be return to manufacter if broken, the warranty will only be for 12 months, if you get a click charge try and get a nil commitment, so click charge is a big thing, they usally do 3 year deals, but it says in the small print we can change the amount on click charges if they want so just be careful, are you getting a RIP as the colours are a pain to match, ie at first there great but in time things ware down so your colours change, unless you calibrate the machine every week the colours will move so a RIP is a good idea, so you run business cards, and the registration is out so you cut them on a guillotine and there all cut wrong because the stock has slipped, who you gonna call (not ghostbusters) xpress will say its your stock, is it on there preferred stock lists ? so you buy there expensive stocks and try again, stock still slips, you ring them, must be the machine no maintenance agreement they will get you to buy new parts and fit them yourselves, you say no machine under warranty, manufactures say its with in there tolerance, so whats the tolerance + or – 2.5mill per side so double sided business cards can be 5mm out, so ask about click charges, maintenance, tolerances, stock lists what stocks can you run, best advice is to take a job on a memory stick with your stocks, flyers, business cards, NCR and try them.

We purchased a Xerox machine a few years ago and have just upgraded it to a newer machine. (Old machine for sale BTW)

As Gary says you really need a service contract as when it breaks you need it fixing ASAP.

You will probably find there’s a minimum commitment of prints you need to put through your machine.

We have more than halved our click rate by upgrading our machine which sees us bringing more stuff in house.

Registration is a pain but we can get it to within .5mm on the new machine, a decent rip (we use Fiery) is essential if you’re going to put high volumes through it.

Also remember you’ll need guillotine, then before you know it creasing machines folders, booklet makers, collator etc as you start doing more & more work.

Hi guys again thanks for your reply’s ,i was going to buy Consumables direct from them but to tell you the truth i have not even gone into terms or even spoke about the stuff you have said, i have only just got the samples but wanted some more knowledge before going back to them. David what was the printed model you had for sale, may be worth a look into it.

    Thanks

Hi me again, just spoken to the company and its a 8.9 p per sheet charge with no commitment and no minimum usage. Have to pay small amount upfront for machine. with regards to rip , i was told it has a internal rip built in and will work fine with adobe softwear. there is a rip option but guy recommends its not needed as colours and registration has been tested to work fine with internal rip. does this sound right ? model link below

    Thank again

If you are paying more than £0.04 per SRA3 its is too much you cannot be competitive, we pay less than this

We’re paying just over 0.04p and remain competitive, depends what kind of work you’re putting through it.

Some jobs we used to outsource and pay £300 for we’re doing in house for £100 (including finishing), some NCR sets we were quoted £225 we’re printing for less than £100. We can still print and laminate 1000 business cards for less than some trade printers. :thumbup2:

We’re running "light production" machines with a small volume (that’s rapidly growing!), if you start looking at the larger production machines and higher volumes I’m sure the click rate reduces considerably.

8.9 p per sheet is that for A4 is so it will be double for SRA3, we paid for both the canon and xerox 3.9 per SRA3 and 1/2p for B/W SRA3

Hi i did think 8.9 sounded high, but for no contact and little investment i guess thats what you get, they was the option of buying toners direct without ppc but thats with no maintenance. i’m pretty sure it was 8.9 per SRA3 page. did having a internal rip so right ? . i think i’m gonna sub out for now until i look a little deeper at some other machines in my budget

    Thanks
