Vinyl Invoicing – Spam Warning
Posted by Steve Morgan on 15 January 2015 at 11:44Just in case!
Had a couple of vinyl samples from Hexis yesterday, this morning 2 invoices appeared in the junk mailbox from Hexis, which I thought was odd and I nearly opened the attached doc file luckily I looked again at who it was addressed to definitely not addresses Hexis would have.
It’s something malicious.Denise Goodfellow replied 10 years, 9 months ago 5 Members · 7 Replies -

Same here which was odd…. as I don’t use Hexis!
The word (or can be excel) attachments if opened will run a macro that will download various password stealers or trojans.
Newer genuine versions of Word & Excel have macros disabled by default and should open these type of files in protected mode, protecting you from these type of malware (you would see a blank document).
Worth checking your versions of Word & Excel to make sure protected mode is active

I don’t use Hexis but might be worth dropping them a line, as it sounds like their systems could be compromised. Too much of a coincidence that you request samples and the next day get two invoices?

We received a couple here today with a word.doc attachment, nothing there when previewed !!!

There aware – Its a new trend to send these type of malware, since start of this year thing we’ve had a few of them 😕 A few from debt collection services, one from a builders merchant – all from highjacked email address.
From what I understand, the ‘hackers’ are now targeting the server networks that route emails – not hacking the business directly – and highjacking email addresses.
…If only they would put there knowledge to a better use.

Just had a Scam e-mail from them, and I’m not even a customer of theirs?

Not had the he is one, but quite a few from a water company and various other. Keep vigilant, if you don’t reconise the name, do a google.
Normally an invoice will be in PDFs formate, though not everyone.
