Design ideas – help needed with improving creativity?
Posted by Ewan Evans on 10 September 2014 at 11:48I always feel as if my designs are too similar to each other when designing vans, banners etc. Is there any good websites or books available to help with creativity for our type of industry?
Cheers

Google images can be a good source of inspiration for us.

Hi Gary,
I use google sometimes but I want to read up on something that trains my mind to think in a more creative way than at present. I can get by doing as I do but understanding design a bit more would benefit me.

if you get stuck, trawl through brands of the world for inspiration. If you see an element / feature / style you admire…work your version of it into a design for your client.
Once you see what you like / sells well, you’ll start producing more stuff with YOUR look to it.
People in Dundee used to comment that you could tell my signs just by looking at them…now it’s the two of us doing the majority of the designs, ‘AW Signs’ has quite an identifiable look compared to the other companies when we get freedom to design with a reasonable budget. That said, we can usually tell who did what round the town by the design and quality of the job…some do sleek designs in premium grades, others more of an "it’ll do, can’t spell, best use up these off-cuts" sort.
