  • Can coloured translucent be edge lit? Help please?

Hi guys, my first post here! Quick little intro, spent 3 years doing signs/graphics from little stickers to 13m x 6m flex face signs before changing jobs (difficult circumstances at the time) have now just got myself a Graphtec CE6000 60 and am looking to start doing a bit of vinyl work.

I was wondering if coloured translucent can be edge lit at all? I know etched effect can be, to a degree as good as actual engraved acrylic (have attached a pic of the etched I’ve done in the past.

Hoping to do something nice for the missus 30th.

    Cheers

    Tom

It won’t be edge lit as such because it is stuck on the face of the acrylic (or back) rather than cut into it. Depends what sort of look you are after, personally I don’t think etched vinyl looks as good as actual etching/engraving for the same reasons.
Will see if I have anything knocking about that I can use to give you some sort of idea what it would look like.

Agreed Martin, I used those for my wedding. The table plan was engraved but the acrylic I received for the table numbers (bought online cut to size) was extruded so I ended up having to use vinyl – left it too late to change.

Would be very much appreciated if you are able to show me roughly how it would look, I was just hoping to be able to light it enough to highlight the colours. It’ll be her 30th so thought it would be nice to have something a bit different.
