Versacamm vs 540 to make artwork – clear film help, please?
Posted by Rob Sidwell on 4 September 2014 at 19:04Hi all
I’m sure it’s been asked before ( did a search ,couldn’t find anything 🙂 )
I need to make some quite fine positives , in the past I have printed onto clear vinyl then mounted this to the backing of my ruby film , not ideal but it works .
Is there any clear film I can directly print onto to make a nice sharp image ?
Cheers , rob

Try Metamark optically clear film – comes with a clear liner. They are very good for sending samples big enough to actually test the suitablility.

Hi Rob,
I second the suggestion for MD-CR Metamark’s optically clear. It’s probably my favourite product for that kind of thing!

make sure it’s printing BLACK and not a muddy CMYK concoction. Then increase the number of passes (slightly denser and allows time to dry / reduce the pooling. Also increase the Overprint setting to put down more ink.

How big are the positives?
We use an epson and get the film from classic screen.

Wow thanks for the quick reply folks 😀
Dave , cheers for that , I knew it was something to do with the number of passes , but the guy at Roland who told us how to do it in versaworks has now left .
The guy we spoke to today at Roland made no mention of increasing the passes , any idea where the setting is in versa works please ?
Cheers Denise , the positives are around 350mm square
It’s been one of those days today (:) 😀

Just too big for an A3 printer.
There are folk who will print your positives for you, OK they might cost £10 each, but if you want only a few, better than wasting time and supplies trying to sort it out yourself
