  • Roland SP300v not recognising ink after changing empty

Posted by Pete Yates on 22 June 2014 at 15:36

    Hi all,

I have a Roland SP300V which recently ran out of CY ink in the middle of a job. I had to order another cartridge so I left it for a couple of days and now it seems stuck.

When I switch it on I get the "out of ink" image showing cartridge 2 as empty, if I swap it for the new one (genuine Roland) nothing changes and if I try and turn it off using the soft power button it says "Now Processing…" as usual but just keeps whirring away and does nothing.

Anybody got any suggestions of what I could do. All of the other control buttons are locked out.

    Much appreciated.

    Pete

sometimes i have to insert a cart more than once to get it to read and if your having problems a wipe over the contact with isoprop normally helps too

    The chip is faulty.
Unscrew the one from the used cart and screw it onto the new one.

wont that register the cart as being empty?

i`ve read that some people shake the empty cart and get it to register more ink in it or they cut off a small tab at the side of the cart…. do a search on this, it might trick the machine into life again

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I didn’t really want to unscrew the chip in case I had to send the new cartridge back.

I tried inserting and removing it several more time and eventually I tried removing all the cartridges and putting them back one by one, the machine recognised each one until I got to the new one, which it didn’t.

I tried taking them all out and starting with the new one, and whadda ya know, it recognised it when it didn’t have any other distractions.

    Thanks again for the advice.

It’s quite common, mine does it just about every time, bit of a shock when it doesn’t give any problems on a change over!
Currently my 540 has decided not to recognise 440 cartridges and thinks they are all 220ml so gives me an ink low warning half way through the cartridge.

Some people have had success with cleaning the contacts as well.
