  • Avery from Vinyl corporation – problems with new roll

Posted by Sophie Hill on 21 February 2014 at 15:39

Is anyone else using Avery 500 matt vinyl and finding the new rolls are not working as well as before? I’m doing wall decals with R tape application tape and the new black roll is not sticking to the tape, causing air bubbles and creasing on rolling. I’ve not had this problem before.

I asked Vinyl corporation but they say no one else has this problem and sent a replacement which was just as bad and then refused to help further. I’m not sure whether to switch brands or just use a different supplier.

Anyone else with the same experience?

Matt doesn’t stick great to application tape at the best of times.

    Is your R-tape HI-TACK?

Yes the 4075 hi tack. I tried Transferite Ultra tack too, hoping it might stick better but no it didn’t help.

Usually I squeegee really hard and it’s fine. Nothing has changed with my set up so I’m sure it’s the vinyl.

How about temperature of where the vinyl and app tape are stored and also temperature of your working environment?

The only other thing is could there be something on the surface of the vinyl reducing adhesion to app tape, might be worth cleaning the vinyl with some alcohol as a test.

    cheers

temperature hasn’t changed, and the replacement roll we tried straight away so no time for it to sit around. as for the application tape it’s stored in our studio which is pretty normal temperature.

it’s more like the white backing that isn’t sticking, more than the vinyl itself.

thanks for the tips though, appreciate you trying to help

What about the app tape itself?? How long have you had it ?? App tape will go off with time & you don’t know how long it’s been sitting on the suppliers shelf before you bought it.
Like Dave has said though matt can be a bit more of a problem than gloss to start with.

thanks Martin, but definitely not the application tape. I know because it works fine with the other colours which I bought previously. It’s just this black new roll that isn’t working. Also I bought a brand new roll of application tape especially because I wanted to rule out a problem with the app take, and it was the same.

I’ve figured it out now. The new Avery vinyl has glossier packing paper which has a different texture, which means the application paper does not stick as well.

Vinyl corporation wouldn’t admit there was any changes to the vinyl but I’m certain now. Will be switching brands in future.
