Corel X5 crashing, advice please?
HI,
does anyone else have the problem of X% crashing when doing certian tasks…Seems to happen to me far more often that I’d like, particularly when tracing a bitmap to make a logo or when trying to edit imported AI files that have ridiculous fountain fills??
beginning to really annoy me.
pc is quad core with 3gb ram so shouldn’t be an issue on processing power… just frustrating to have to remember the other windows that have also just shut down!

Share your frustration. Have had X5 for a few years now and it does have a habit of crashing on complex tasks occasionally, just when you’re thinking ‘must save this now’ typically 😳 have it on a W7 64bit with 8GB ram so would agree not pc power problem.
Am thinking of upgrading to X6, anyone got any views as to whether it is worth it, more stable etc?

I run X6 albeit on a W7 – 32 bit machine with only 3gig ram and it performs well and I’ve not had issues when sorting larger files for digital print or when tracing. X6 was written to be more efficient with multi core processors and use 64 bit and even on my machine it feels snappier than X5. X6 is currently on R4 so make sure you run the latest revision.
With X6 Corel introduced a membership scheme, basically you create a FREE account and when you sign in you automatically get the standared membership and for a fee you can get the Premium membership which gives you even more online content, clipart/photos/fonts over and above that of standard and from what I understand also entitles you to X7 when that eventually comes along, before you ask I don’t know when that will be released. Many thanks for this Alan, good to hear its running well for you and great to have first hand feedback. I had bad experience with installing X5 on pcs (win XP) that already had Corel 12 on them – caused numerous conflicts so have held off upgrading again!. Did you upgrade from an earlier version and if so any problems – tips on install?. Thanks, Hugh.

X6 is on this computer alongside X5 and X4 and they all co-exist with no issues. I think I’m right in saying that X6 was written with 64 bit in mind and it certainly works ok on my 64 bit laptop

At least you can miss X6 now 🙂 I would wait on X7 until the gremlins are ironed out and the first service pack is released lol

Yup with upgrades I usually do evens or odds.
I’m on X5 now (ugh WinXP) and when my ship comes in I plan on getting a new PC and ugrading to X7.
X5 has always been super slow to load for me and very "crashy" and "freezy".
In technical terms.

I’m using X7 and its working well and I’m finding it more snappy especially over X5. It does have a slightly different UI with things being moved but I got used to it pretty quickly.
