    Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a Refine EH720 cutter to help me along with my work, and I have spent about the last month slowly trying to get it working, with no real knowledge of what I should be doing.

I have now got a manual for the cutter and set it up as per instructions, I have the correct cable I ordered from Refine themselves, and I now have the computer talking to the cutter via Artcut 2009.

The problem I am now faced with are as follows:

    1. the cutter WILL cut anything that is a box, or series of straight lines, then it goes off on what seems to be it’s own journey, spooling through meters of vinyl and slowly moving back and forth across the width. It will begin to cut curves but quickly goes into the same mode of spooling meters of vinyl and moving back and forth.

At first I thought it may be a problem only with curves, but now I think it may be that straight lines use up less commands and it’s actually just struggling with information over a certain amount.

If anyone has any idea what could be causing this I would love to know, this is slowly driving me around the bend!

    2. I can not run the self test program because my control panel is slightly different to the one in the manual I have (I have all manuals for the EH720 and none of them have exactly the same control layout as mine, Refine Europe refuse to even tell me anything about my cutter from it’s serial number because I didn’t buy it from them) if anyone has an idea on how to perform the test program, then I would be grateful too. I can also provide pictures.

    Many Thanks

    Andy

Artcut – Yikes thats one painful piece of software I cant help you there. It probably the cause of most of your troubles based on my own experience.

I would suggest trying the alternative software and see if you get the same results. I would suggest signblazer as its free you can find a free link to download it online, signcut pro or winpcsign you can download demos of both of these.

try em out see if it solves your problems.

    good luck 😎

Possibly an earthing issue…….have you fitted the earth strap between the plotter and the stand?
USB or serial connection? The serial is far more stable ……the USB is actually a USB/serial converter and you must load the software for that before you can use the USB connection.

I have 2 of these plotters and when set up they are actually very good machines.

    John & Dean,

First of all, thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it.

I’m using a USB to serial adapter (prolific) that I ordered new because the one that came with it gave me endless problems with drivers. That now works well, and I have a Serial cable I got from Refine Europe themselves, so I’m not too worried about the connection.

The earth cable… This is news to me, I have looked through my user manual and found nothing about this, though I have just found a set up manual hidden deep within my driver CD that shows me what is needed , so I will do this right away and try again.

As for Software, I can’t help thinking artcut is really not the greatest software, but I don’t think that software alone would be causing this problem, though I don’t mind forking out for a copy of something that does work, thank you for the heads up on sign blazer, signcut pro and winpcsign, I’ll try out the trials and see if I get the same problems.

I’ll also let you know as soon as I have tried everything and what happened, fingers crossed.

Also John, would you know how to run the self test program on one of these things? My control panel is different to that pictured in the manual, I could even post a picture of it if you would like to see the layout.

    Thanks again

    Andy

An earth cable and Signcut pro have finally put me in business, cutting airbrush stencils all day!

Thank you both for your advice!

    Extremely grateful
