  • can someone advise please with a Flexisign issue?

Hello people…. Looking for a bit of advice.

I am relatively new to sign making. I currently use Flexisign 10.0.1 which has been no problem, until recently.

All of a sudden it seems to be very slow, after i have finished my design or wording and i hit the cutter button…I now have a long wait for it to change to the cutter screen. Whilst i am waiting there is a blue progress bar on the bottom left of the program screen which says Rasterizing, and this is what the delay is as the blue bar takes forever to go up.

I have been using Flexi for a wee bit now and done a good few jobs but up until now I have never seen this progress bar, it has always just been an instant thing, going from 1 screen to the next. Which it still is on my laptop actually. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling but it has made no diff.

I am unsure if this is due to a setting in Flexi or on my pc, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Robert

This might be a totally random guess, but are you definitely pressing cut and not rip and print or something on your toolbar. I don’t know why you would need to rasterize to cut.

    Just a guess,

Have you tried restoring Flexisigns Preferences to default settings?

Well I did do a fresh install which I thought would have reset the settings etc.

I am more thinking now if it could be a windows update or something that is now conflicting with my pc and the program. I did also do a system restore to as early as it would let me but that did not help.

My next move I think is to reinstall windows on my pc.

I would contact Scanvec about it before you go re installing windows, might be a problem they know about. Think there is a flexisign forum but you need to be registered with them to access it.

Wee update – Switched PC on tonight opened Flexisign and I am no longer getting the Vectorizing bar….so ? I am stumped, really stumped.

Another quick question…. Any advice for cutting small lettering without them all lifting etc…?

How far should my blade stick out the bottom of the holder ?

    Thanks Chaps

The blade should be almost hidden, try to get it so it sticks out only slightly more than the thickness of the vinyl you are cutting.
As for small letters, aside from the obvious – sharp blade, good cutting strip and correct pressure – some vinyls cut much better than others.
I find Oracal 751 and 3M 180c cast vinyl cuts very small letters very well without lifting, but the Avery 900, while a terriffic vinyl with a fantastic life, is a nightmare to cut anything under about 10-15mm letters, and acute angles are terrible.
Also you can sometimes weed the small letters AFTER you have applied them to the substrate. You can reduce the pressure so the blade doesnt go quite ALL the way through, so they are not trying to lift, and the extra stick makes it easier than weeding off the release paper. Just cut a weeding box around them first.

    Simon.

What plotter are you running? If it supports tangential cutting that cuts small lettering much better than the normal mode.

Hi. It’s a 44" Jinka 1351. Not sure if it’s good or not. It’s my first cutter so it will do for the moment.
