Hi all, I came across this problem on my Gerber Odyssey, though it could be generic. The problem ‘ the plotter did not cut all of the file sent, missing various segments, apparently on a horizontal plane though not always’. This had me scratching my head for weeks, just lucky its not a production plotter.
    The Cause….
    update firmware.. No change.
    Update driver… No change.
    check software… No change.

I then studied the movement of the carriage while sending a job. The x and y movement was fine, I watched more closely for the z axis movement. This appeared to be fine with the knife moving down and up as expected, however even though the knife was in a down position, completion of the job revealed missed cuts.
I manually moved the knife holder down and up and noticed quite a resistance.
The Cure, Lubricate then blow out the z axis sliders, then re lubricate. Voila problem solved, slight grabbing of the blade holder on its way down gave hit and miss contact on the vinyl.
This machine is now back in service and probably saved myself a grand on call out.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers
    Ivan
