    Hi all,

I’m thinking about updating my PC because I’ve maxed out the memory & it’s getting on a bit now anyway so time for a new one.

The only OS choice really now seems to be Windows 7 so I’m checking to see if Flexi 8.1, Photoshop 7, Illustrator 11 CS2 & my Graphtec CE1000 Plotter are compatible. Is anyone out there using any of these programs on 7 & if so are there any issues?

There appears to be a driver for the plotter but it does say that there may be llimited function whatever that may mean.

Just trying to sort out a Windows 7 64 bit and never been so frustrated graphtec one of the problems. Won’t talk to a xp machine properly. Does not seam any faster than a really good xp machine. Hate it so far.

Upgraded to windows 7 early last year had real issues getting plotter and printers to see the new machine, eventually got remote assistance ( they take over you computer ) and sorted all the issues out, one year later I was still sorting issues out, but I now having it working well, 64 bit programmes and updates are fast catching on but it has taken a while for the software guys to play catch up. More hassles however with iOS 7.01, 7.02 ad lib fade

I think these issues are down to specific software.

Chris & Graham, what Graphtec machines do you both have? The CE1000 is getting almost antique now, I think it must be around 15 years old. But like i said Graphtec appear to have a driver for it for Windows 7 (see attached) but not sure what the limitations may be.

Karen, That’s exactly the response I was hoping for. Have you been running with it for long? Which Flexi do you have is it Pro?

Yip, been using it for quite a while now, probably around 10 months. Yes it is FlexiSIGN-PRZo 8.1v1

We run a crappy Foison off it! Waiting on piggy bank filling up so we can upgrade! (Would be so nice to have a cutter that didn’t leave tags that makes weeding so beeping difficult!)

The only time we had issue with it not recognising the cutter was when the cat chewed through the cable and we didn’t notice!!!

😮 Lucky cat, I guess that’s one life gone.

Have you tried adjusting the offset on your plotter? That should sort the tag problem. It can depend on the blades your using as to the offset required. If you adjust one step at a time either way & do a test cut you should find what offset works best.

Thankfully it wasn’t the power cable!

Have tried lots of different offset settings, but have resigned ourself to the fact that that’s what happens when you buy cheap! I use my wee Sillhouette for smaller stuff so it doesn’t hold us back too much!

Piggy bank should be at its limit soon, so looking forward to shopping a little higher up the market!

Photoshop 7 won’t run under windows 7 & possibly illustrator as well, I’ve got the full CS1 package which is photoshop 8 & I think illustrator 10 but could be wrong about illustrator. Anyway it won’t run under windows 7 as I tried on one of my machines.
Having said that I built a computer that runs windows 7 64 bit as it’s main operating system with windows xp & windows 98 both running using a virtual machine.
I believe if you purchase windows 7 pro or ultimate then there is a windows xp mode but never tried that myself as I only have the basic version of windows 7. I use a program called vmware player which is a free download. From what I have read it is suppose to be better than the microsoft version but haven’t compared myself.
All my xp software is installed on the xp virtual machine & I have never had any problems at all with any of them. You can even drag & drop between windows xp & windows 7 so getting artwork from one program on xp to another on windows 7 isn’t a problem lol

You need to set the blade offset ( normally 0.25mm) and overcut( normally double the offset) in Flexisign……when you do leave the little grey box checked or the settings will not be applied…….no reason why it cannot cut well.

Generally, if there are suspected issues with W7 comparability with older software. Install as normal then change the properties to run under Windows XP Service pack TWO mode…not had an issue yet with any old stuff.

Not had any need for virtual machines doing it this way.

As I said Dave you need to be running windows 7 pro or ultimate to be able to use xp mode & I don’t run either of them.
Is xp mode not a virtual machine?

Not really, it’s just tweaking bits of the operating system (eg. WoW64 and bits of the registry).

Excellent, thanks Dave & Martin, that’s spot on, so it seems that one way or another it is possible, which is what I needed to know.

    Cheers 😀

    Hi Chris,

Interesting point & raises another question for me. Do I need 32bit or 64bit or maybe should I ask which would I be better off getting if I’m building a new computer?

Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.

Chris, on my machine windows 7 is installed as 64 bit but xp is 32 bit. My printer & plotter both seem to work fine when running xp & neither of them are up to date bits of kit lol. Graphtec FC4100 plotter & Mutoh RJ8000 printer.
In fact the motherboard I bought didn’t have a serial port but did have the header so I was able to add one.
I don’t know about other drivers, maybe I have just been lucky. Wouldn’t hurt to have a look at the vmware site though.
If you have the money for windows 7 pro or ultimate then it might be a better option to run the microsoft xp mode instead though.
