PDF too big to email – help please
Posted by Ewan Chrystal on 26 September 2013 at 10:00Hi All, I’m trying to send a pdf to the local paper but the file size is 66mb which is too big to email.
Is there any way i can reduce this without losing quality? Thanks

Chances are it has images embedded in the PDF.
Depending on what you’re exporting from (know you can in Corel) it should be able to downsample the images. eg. to 300dpi
Not so in Photoshop as it’s a bitmap program, Illustrator is vector though.
Alternative is try to ZIP or RAR the file to compress it…sometimes save a chunk.

Yeah it has images, I created it in Flexisign. Tried ZIP, didnt really do much unfortunately

As dave sais reduce/compress the file check your scale as well set up on A4 corel and illustrator will do this I find corel better.

Its really weird. It comes out of flexi at 66.7mb then when i save as PDF (with downsampling) from AI it is 87.5mb ????

Pre-reduce the image sizes (dpi) to the least you can get away with at the given size.
Scale doesn’t make any difference to vector pdfs or the images embedded if you can’t drop the image file size.

As it’s going to a local paper the biggest it’s getting printed I suspect will be A3?
They can’t do any better in a newspaper than 300dpi at full scale, so even if you convert the whole think to a JPG and just email them that…with an attached EPS / AI of any vector logos / text they might need to play with.

cheers David, I am PREsizing the images as we speak.
