Roland at Print Efficiently for the key to successful divers
Diversification is the key to the commercial print sector building a vibrant, successful and profitable future. And, this year, Roland DG will be using Print Efficiently 2013 to demonstrate how its range of wide format tools and applications can help commercial printers to diversify and grow their business with high value, high margin products.
Says Mat Drake, Business Manager Commercial Print, Roland DG: “Low up-front capital investment and high ROI are hallmarks of Roland’s wide format digital print solutions and the key to wide format’s huge success generally, so is its incredible flexibility. Essentially, if you can think it, you can probably print it. The output is vast – from POS, banners, garment decoration, signage, labels and decals to vehicle graphics, posters or personalised direct mail, textured print, packaging prototypes and proofing. All printed with exceptional photorealistic image quality and on-demand. We will be demonstrating a number of these applications on the stand at the event.”
Roland’s VersaCAMM pioneered print and cut technology over a decade ago and it remains the world’s most popular and best-selling printer in the durable graphics market. Today the VersaCAMM print and cut family makes up part of the largest wide format portfolio in the market, and at Print Efficiently the VersaCAMM family will be represented by the 64” wide VersaCAMM VS-640.
VersaCAMM VS printer/cutter series is the fastest and most versatile VersaCAMM yet. With print speeds up to 23.1m²/hr, integrated print and cut capabilities, remote monitoring and unattended print features, the VS can help printers make money, faster. Available in 64" (1.62m), 54" (1.37m), 42" (1.07m) or 30” (0.76m) models, the affordable VersaCAMM VS achieves stunning results. For maximum versatility, the VS series comes in four ink configurations, with the option to include innovative Metallic and White inks, which can add a luxury and eye-catching edge to any graphic.

Joining the VS-640 on the stand will be the SOLJET PRO4 XR-640. The PRO4 XR-640 print and cut wide format printer is the ideal machine for markets that demand output of the highest quality. The machine is compatible with Roland’s advanced, durable and waterproof ECO-SOL MAX2 inks, which includes high-opacity white and eye-catching metallic silver printing options, and incorporates their latest print head technology capable of producing photo realistic output suitable for a range of viewing distances from hand to eye and upwards. The XR-640 offers 7 or 8 colour configurations including a light black – perfect for greyscales and refined black and white printing with outstanding skin tone realism and smoothness. The machine’s LcLm configuration again offers vibrant skin tones and graduations for a photorealistic result. The XR-640 also includes the latest version of Roland’s powerful RIP software – VersaWorks, which now features PANTONE® spot colour replacement.
Amongst the many applications printed on the machines during the show will be an innovative new substrate called Yupo Tako (Octopus in Japanese) which has been provided by Antalis. PVC free and available in a variety of grades for different printing methods, Yupo Tako has a unique micro suction structure, which enables it to stick to flat surfaces without adhesive. This means it offers a bubble-free easy to stick and removeable solution for POS, labelling and other short-life or campaign-based marketing applications. The micro suction side of YupoTako can also be washed with water when the adhesion is weakened by dust, prolonging reuse and the life of the product.

Concludes Mr Drake: “What wide format offers the commercial printer is simple: a very cost-effective, high value product with a strong margin and a vibrant future. We are all looking for new markets and new reasons to speak to our customers and increase our traction with them. Roland’s technology gives the commercial printer this and I encourage all visitors to come onto the stand and see exactly what wide format can do for their business.”
