    Hi all,

Question: I did a multi-layer job, consisting of shapes with text (stencil font)
Shipped it out, He got back to me with a complaint about the backing.

Taking the shapes of the backing was no problem, but with the text he experienced that the cut was apparantly to deep causing the backing to come loose.
I hope my explanantion makes sense.

I wonder if anyone recognizes this.
It looks like the knife cut deeper into the text part.
    Same vinyl/knife/settings.

probably you used two different vinyls one thinner than the other hence with the same pressure settings its possible for the cutter to go through the backing of one product and not the other 🙁

check with supplier that all colours are the same thickness. Some black and whites can be thinner I was led to believe

That’s what bothers me. It’s the same!

It sounds silly, but maybe you have a double cut path on the text part of your file

Do a test cut across the full width of your cutter, perhaps the cutting strip is damaged or seated higher along the part of the width and so reducing distance between vinyl and blade.

Good one, I know I do a lot of duplicating in inkscape.
I’ll check my design for hidden duplicates.

    I’ll try that too.
    Checked design: No duplicates!

Cutting Master has a check box where you can ask it to cut ‘twice’, if using CM have you checked this? if you use that function you have to remember to uncheck it, It doesn’t go back to the default setting until you exit the programme iirc.

I think it’s probably just a case of the pressure being a little too high.
The shapes would probably come off the backing OK depending on the shape but the lettering would be more likely to pull up the backing especially if the vinyl has got damp at any time.

Did the text have built up layers?
    Did you do it wet?

Sometimes the app fluid soaks into the cut line, we transfer all the design onto uncut backing paper from old stock vinyl.

Did it lift ok when you applied app paper?
