  • Advice needed for first full wrap – BMW E46 Coupe

Posted by Burhan Uddin on 9 August 2013 at 17:40

    Hi guys,

This will be my first full vehicle wrap after coming off the UKSG wrap course, so I would greatly appreciate some advice and guidance.

The car is a E46 coupe, does anybody know how much vinyl I would need for this? I would like to get a few extra metres for any mistakes I may make.

Also anybody have any experience removing the door handles on these (not sure if they are similar to other BMW’s), and any other bits that need to be removed?

Quite looking forward to this, will get pictures put up once I finally get it done.

    Cheers.

i would say 15-16m, not sure about the e46 coupe handles, the e46/e90 saloons are pretty simple, just a key on the side of the door which need loosening then everything comes off after a pull or two

    Hi Burhan

Well done on getting your first wrap to do mate…

    Some pointers…

    First Wrap:

You should request to see the vehicle in the flesh before quoting.
Doing this will allow you to measure the vehicle properly.
Seeing the vehicle will show you exactly how deep the recesses are, which will allow you also to know which media must be used to remain in those recesses.
removing vehicle body parts is the best way to get a best finish, but your not a mechanic. so do NOT… get someone in to do it for you who knows what they are doing.
I can already hear folk read this thinking, "oh its easy, just do this and that" in many cases it is, but should you break a catch, loose a spring or missfit parts… your expenses as a result could easily be more than your wrap fee. think about it!

sorry to throw in some negatives mate, but you will know from this from your training…
please do submit pictures when you are done, would love to see them. and if you have any problems, please feel free to email me direct rob@uksignboards.com

Adding to what Robert has said when you are having a look over the vehicle take some pictures, especially any areas that you think may give you a problem, that way if you do want to ask for advice from more experienced people you can include a picture which always helps. Plus it helps you with your own planning.

Thanks guys, these are all very useful advice which I will definitely take on board, no need to be sorry Rob!

What is the correct way to actually measure a vehicle? Would you just get a tape measure and measure each panel then add them all up? How do you guys do it?

And that’s a good idea Martin, I think I will be seeing the car tomorrow so will take some pictures then.

regarding e46 handles, pop the rubber of inside of door and theres a hex bolt, undo that, pop the cap off where key hole is, and pull and slide handle towards rear,
