  • Problems with Magenta Head on XJ 640

    Hi All,
I’ve been scouring the forums to find a solution to a problem I’m having with a head on my Roland XJ 640 and can’t find a similar post.
Before printing, our print test shows no blocked nozzles. Then during a print it will drop about half of them. This happens randomly, and never the same pattern. I can print a run of 20m or so and it’s fine then the next time it will drop after 1/2m. A standard clean brings all the nozzles back every time. The heads, docking stations and wiper blades are all clean, the print room temperature is fine, damper has been changed two weeks ago during a service by a Roland engineer, who has been unable to remedy the problem. We are running Lyson 2000. However, if the 3rd pary inks were a problem then surley it would be affecting all the heads. The wasted material, ink and time is starting to mount-up. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That really does sound like a damper fault. Otherwise, it could be air getting into the line somewhere? Did your engineer change any orings at all? That can sometimes cause a similar fault.

Stafford, thanks very much. The engineer is pretty new to this world, recently trained by Roland, we thought he could have been a school leaver when he arrived for the first time, but with all due respect to him he is a very helpful lad.

We did explain the problem to him before and he thought it could have been a couple of things but the problem hasn’t gone away.

he is hopefully popping in this afternoon so I’ll mention what you’ve said to him. The heads, nozzles and the machine in general are normally mint, it’s a very fresh machine so it’s surprising why it’s suddenly started misbehaving.

Really appreciate you taking the time to comment, thanks again

No probs Jamie. We all have to start somewhere, I hope he gets it sorted this time.
