Whats in the back of your Van?
Posted by Craig Ross on 10 April 2013 at 10:23Morning All!
I in the process of boarding and attempting to use all the useable space with storage/shelves.
How do you have the back of your vans kitted out?
Plus what do you always carry, what can you not live without….

How long is a piece of string Craig ???????????
Seriously, the answer to that question will depend on the sort of work people are doing so different people will kit their vans out differently.
What sort of work are you doing generally? Not much point carrying a fold up scaffold if you only do vehicle work, unless of course you fit a lot of lorry wind deflectors lol. Size of van will make a big difference as well.More detail you can give the easier it is for people to reply. Oh & me I don’t have a van anymore so can’t tell you. :lol1: :lol1:

Ha! Well it was more of a show us your van threads. To give me and potentially others ideas…
There is no right or wrong answer..

Keep it fairly empty.
LWB HT Iveco.
Always in – 2x 3 stage ladders (straight & ‘A’) racked in the headroom.
Roller shutter cabinet (5′ x 5′ x 12" deep) behind seats to make a bulkhead with boxes of hilti fixings and ’emergency tools (saw, crowbar, hammer)’ also hi-vis / hats / gloves and a few batons of wood.Ready to ship out from the workshop are General tool box/trolley, electrical toolbox, vinyl fitting & cleaning kit and the Makita drills & impact drivers…just never store tools or jobs in the van.

I used sterling board to build a rack in mine (Vauxhal combo), and some second hand pick and mix jars make useful storage.
Also I agree with Dave keep it as empty as possible saves a bit on fuel consumption and if some thieving little **** pinches you van at least you don’t loose your tools

currently my sons broken down motorbike that I just drove 50miles round trip to collect in this weather, terminal 🙁
usually, pair of belted seats, huge dog cage, ladder down the right hand side, tool boxes under the raised / false floor, sledgehammer, axe, extension lead, knives, squeegees, buckets, heat gun, rugby kits / balls / waterproofs, fishing gear / waterproofs etc. etc.
generally about 400kg more than I ever need to be carrying.

I’ve just spent a whole weekend kitting out our new lwb sprinter! Really enjoyed it to! Lit the back up inside with 2 strips of adhesive white led strips, always daylight in there now! Have narrow shelving, tool box and a work bench up one side. Shelving is full of all sorts from fixings, power tools, cleaning equipment, buckets!
Also installed a pioneer touch screen with reversing camera and built in Bluetooth hands free, and the essential DVD player!

My van is used for both business and pleasure as I can’t justify having two vehicles.
I have had racking in the past, but find unless you are very careful and clean out once a week. The racking / back of your van easily fills up with useless rubbish ( stuff you may use / need someday… .. by which time you have forgotten you have it anyway…. )The racking was removed, the van re plylined and carpeted with cargo nets fixed to the sides for holding vinyl rolls etc off the floor.
All my tools and screw fixing boxes are on lockable wheeled units.. and easy to lift on and off in seconds.

I don’t have a van, I have an S10 with a tonneau cover.
In the back there is a 6’ladder, a folding mini scaffold, bungees, and a leopard skin blanket.
Love…Jill -
I’m guessing the leopard skin blanket is to use as a tarpaulin to protect against paint splashes 😮

To keep signs from getting scratched on deliveries, or for a picnic.
-
My van is full of window cleaning kit (my other business). Tonight i also have 6 signs in the back to be fitted tomorrow along with step ladders, drills, fixings etc
-
i have a water bed, mirrored ceiling, surround sound stereo and drinks cabinet, had a lovely leapord print blanket too but cant find it for the life of me! 😕

whatever is in the back of one van should have been in the other when i arrive on site 👿

How true that is!
Well I found this before this thread which is what gave me the inspiration. Might help someone else out.
