    Thanks Chris

These are pictures I have been sent. I suggested they were resin domed but have been told this is not the case so was wondering what other methods may be used?

    their not? 😮

there was an old method of this type of thing phill but its costly as far as set-up charges and minimum amount/order. my understanding is the resin domes are a much more cost effective way of doing same job which requires only a cut vinyl or printed graphic topped with resin. meaning 1 or 1000+ is easily doable.

the resins are available to give harder finishes than normal, only other way i can think of is to cast a epoxy type resin in a mold, why don’t they think its doming ?

They are sending me a sample to look at – I was convinced they are resin domed too.

The MG one on the key looks scratched and to me seems to be domed (as in pressed) aluminium.

    quote NeilRoss:

You could be right Neil, I think that’s how they were made in the past. a sort screened foil pressed to become embossed with adhesive back.

getting black into to stick to metal foil might be a challenge for silk screen.

Remember at signuk a printer/laser thing that prints onto metals? dont have info to hand

yeh dave but these types of badges have been around for years mate.
i would guess it ti be screened but if like you say that would be an issue they could easily be sublimation printed. we used to do sublimation printing direct to metals like aluminium, copper and more, over 20 years ago. quick, easy and very durable.
i would imagine for car companies using them on keys though that the volume must be high.
