OMG hooray!!! :)
Posted by Tim de Beir on 10 December 2012 at 09:29I just have received the news that the Belgian Federal Goverment has choosen my offer for branding the railway station at Bruges.
For example there’s a glass wall with a length of 130 meters, where I have to apply an etch vinyl onto it. Size : 130 meters long x 1 m height.
The etch is completely cut with a poem, reading from left to right over the whole length, and with 5 lines of text under eachother.I am so so excited, I had to tell you guys here at the uksignboards!

Well done to you Tim, what great news!
That will make Christmas a bit sweeter.:D
Look forward to seeing the end result.
-
as martin says Tim, will be great to see the end result mate.
well done to you, thats excellent news and a great addition to your portfolio! -
As the others have said well done Tim, other plus is that now you are on their system you might be asked to do other work that you haven;t been able to quote for in the past.
-
Exciting news Tim.
As has been said it’ll be great to see the finished work.
Good on you and well done.
-
well done… just make sure you take your OWN measurements before you cut the vinyl! 130mtrs in the wrong scale could be scary expensive.
-
they have asked for an etch with guaranteed lifetime minimum 7 years, and it’s in fact glass panels each 2,7m width and a small aluminium frame.
Etch has to be applied on inside buth each glass panel is another office, so office in and out…
I will get further details and i have 40 days : for them approving the layout, me ordering materials and installation.
I am now looking for some subcontractors to help me with this, because at this moment I am still working as a graphic designer on daily base, and caviar graphics is just a second job 🙂
-
etch that i have offred is the 3M 7725, very expensive material and when I am thinking about the total cost of investment before getting paid… pfewww!
-
when you say both in and out, do you mean both sides of the same sheet of glass?
for "etch" i havent used 3M. I am "guessing" this is a high end stipulation?
only saying that as there are other cost effective etch films on the market, but if the spec is 3M then that’s what i would keep with. -
@ Robert : they did not aks for a specific brand, but as for projects like this I did not think on any other brand than 3M…
I have to guarantee this total project for a total of 5 years, any defect must been corrected within 7 (work) days…
I have received a document with 40 pages with al their demands, so making worries about materials is one easy thing to eliminate!
For example :
When quoting for the job i declare that they may consult my bankaccounts
I must make that each subcontractor speaks dutch, has dutch nationality for minimum 5 years, and i must have a insurance for each of them.
Insurance must been emailed to a certain person for approval by goverment within 10 days!I have to make a handbook from every installation, with type of vinyl, how to clean, and prevent damages (stupid I know). Must been copied to 5 ex.
and so on and so on…
-
fully understand and from that point of view 3M certainly should tick their boxes.
I have been there too Tim, all the paperwork and nonsense that’s thrown at us tendering for a job gets ridiculous.
the part that gets me is "them wanting credit from you" but want to check "your accounts" 😀 but if its any comfort, companies of this size/type offering work "do often ask". -
Sounds like a case of "be careful what you wish for"
😀
I hope all goes well!
Congratulations just the same.
Love….Jill -
And did you notice that in the small print it actually said the 130 metres of vinyl had to be applied dry, and in one piece without any joins 😕
-
nice one tim cracking job for your portfolio hope it all goes well 😉

So I’m the only one daft enough to be wondering what poem?
-
quote Gordon Connelly:So I’m the only one daft enough to be wondering what poem?
Nope! 😀
I’m betting on this…railway= travel=leavingOn Leaving Bruges
The city’s steeple-towers remove away,
Each singly; as each vain infatuate Faith
Leaves God in heaven, and passes. A mere breath
Each soon appears, so far. Yet that which lay
The first is now scarce further or more grey
Than the last is. Now all are wholly gone.
The sunless sky has not once had the sun
Since the first weak beginning of the day.
The air falls back as the wind finishes,
And the clouds stagnate. On the water’s face
The current breathes along, but is not stirred.
There is no branch that thrills with any bird.
Winter is to possess the earth a space,
And have its will upon the extreme seas.Dante Gabriel Rossetti
