  • Help sourcing Carbon Fibre Vinyl (Cat Piano)

Posted by Andy Taylor on 5 December 2012 at 00:41

I am not sure if this is a vinyl you people will know although its not cheap its half the price of 3m and my mate who wants it , says its easier to apply to small items.

His supplier has closed so he cant get it any.longer and he asked if I knew of it but I have never heard of it.

I have a couple of pics that might help identify it and hopefully a supplier or two. many thanks

    Regards Andy T

CatPiano Vinyl, never heard of it nor can take it seriously with that name mate.
i would imagine it to be a cheap chinese import not up to much other than small novelty signage products.

the logo resembles Oracals vinyl brand and i would imagine is probably the counterfit source of Oracal i have come across. not saying it is, but has strong resemblance.

This place claims to supply it http://hkdihuang.en.alibaba.com/?err_bi … 2597707810

My mate swears by it and he works for West Field Sports cars (pretty good at what he does) and had it on a bonnet of his for some time now, its as good as the day it went on ,but still cant find a UK supplier.

PS should I use a URL tag???

sourcing via Alibaba is a mega gamble Andy. especially for vinyls…
take your pick of brands listed on the UKSB toolbar. theres about 20 brands on there. contact some of the bigger suppliers and ask them what low cost media they offer and get prices and spec. you will be surprised at what you can get and its more or less on your doorstep next morning.

that website shows loads of decorative and regular vinyls, but i would bet its bargain basement type film.

I did get some cast carbon on offer this week and was not that impressed to be honest.

But the main thing is its not actually for me its for a mate who has used it before and swears by it. I was just hoping a small supplier in the UK had got some and one of the users on here knew who had it in stick lol

I have actually recently had more than my fill of some Chinese and their selfish/duplicitous mentality to last me a lifetime. I am owed a lot of money so Alibaba is not my first port of call lol

It was more of a first impression so its a bit unfair to name the product till I have done a proper test. 🙂 It just did not feel like I thought it should feel like . I did some more research on vinyl types yesterday and realized it should actually be thinner. So I will reserve comment until i actually use it. lol

one quick one . I have renewed my subscription last night so I can read the article. I still cant see it. has my account been upgraded yet?

Seen this supplied on fleabay a few weeks ago, you will have to have a ratch, i remember the seller is marketing it as 3M, but when you look at the listing he says its catpiano on it

It is definitely NOT 3M or connected to 3M in any way shape or form.
As I said, the logo itself resembles Oracals in several ways and I bet it’s the same company that produces the counterfeit Oracal vinyl I have been personally sent.
Unless someone can correct me with fact, I would advise you to refrain from buying this sort of vinyl.
It is not only about how it looks, or the fact it’s got an air release adhesive system. Its how it performs after it’s on. Will it pull from recesses? Will it remove your customers paint lacquer, will it leave huge amounts of glue, will it shrink excessively and more. If and when it does, the only one out of pocket will be you because the guy on eBay or wherever is NOT going to give a damn about your loss.
As I said, you can buy proper branded vinyl’s around the same price from proper UK suppliers.
If nothing else you have a sympathetic ear on the other end of the phone that will try and resolve the problem with you.

I have to agree, stick to your UK supplier and at least if the vinyl fails (& your not to blame) you know you have started with a genuine product. A friend imported some through Alaba Trade and it seemd ok’ish but why take the gamble??

I think the point is being missed . A mate has asked me if I can source a supply of vinyl the same as he has he has been using for over 18 months to good effect. I have purchased a vinyl costing many more time more than he was paying and it does not do what he wants. I realise if he wants to race in F1 he needs an F1 car but if he only wants to get to the shops whats wrong with the mini he has used perfectly well.

He does not intend to wrap Balotelli’s bentley just a few I phone cases and parts for few mates cars.

Thats why I asked if anyone has purchased some of the identical stuff in the UK.

hope you can follow this. Its not about whats the best or even the cheapest its what he knows works. In general I appreciate what people are saying but in this case I know he can pay more and get better vinyl but he wont get any jobs/work as its just not cost effective.

not difficult to find or buy.
we got some (and another make) use it to show customers so they can see the difference.
have enough troubles with so called quality stuff to worry about it.

So where would I get it from then Chris??

And what is the difference apart from price.?

I have seen some of the stuff this guy has covered and I cant fault it. OK so he is not wrapping a vehicle but it looks acceptable to his customers.

    Have you asked him Andy??
Would have thought you would have done but worth checking, if he ships it in from abroad in bulk it would be worth his while selling what ever he can.
