Hi Guys, I have a UNIFORM SP140C and alas I think I need to replace at least 2 of the print heads..

Does anyone have any advice on where to purchase, type, cost, fitting etc?

It’s not the best printer in the world and to me it’s rather like running my old 1995 VW T4 Caravelle. I like to do the work on it where I can myself. I keep it running ok, but the drop out in the magenta head is really becoming a pain now and I find that I can sometimes get nearly to the end of a 2m roll up banner and watch the magenta start to lose its grip…

I can tell you how frustrating it is to lose up to 10m of media some days just trying to get the bloody thing through a job…

Printing PVC banners is fine as you don’t notice the banding on the media due to its texture… But I can see that the magenta isnt doing its job and also often drips a few blobs halfway through the print too…

I have a few tricks left yet such as new wipers and a complete upgrade of ink, but I’m getting to the point where I’m almost certain the only solution is a new head… all the others are pretty much fine maybe only one or two nozzle drop outs on 2 of the heads…

I’m wasting ink and media trying to keep it firing… also getting overspray and very very washed out and fuzzy prints… I keep doing a maintenance clean but often find that after a full maintenance clean the magenta head takes several power cleans to get it running again…

I must admit, I havent tried changing the capping heads or the dampers yet… so that may be my next port of call… I would love to get an engineer in to look, but I have to say some of the call out fees are scary to say the least (obviously not compared to the money I’m losing in media if you draw that comparison) I’m happy to pay for a diagnosis if the hourly rate is ok, but I’m keeping my budget very tight at the moment…

Any "impartial" advice good or bad will be most gratefully received

    Cheers peoples

DigiPrint is ok and slightly dearer is TechEight have you tried new dampers when these clog you get ink starvation like you are saying although the fuzziness does point to a possible bad head.

Give Julian a call. He came up to Yorkshire to change 2 heads for us. Found him very reasonable

I was doing some research on print heads for our HM1 DTG printer last night. Its not been used for a few years.

people were saying that a head from a epsom 1900 through to a 2440 ( might have a few numbers mixed up there LOL) would fit our machine.

The said 1900 can be bought for £300-£400 on the bay, yet the heads alone were being sold for £400+

From memory ( i did have a large glass of red) DX4 and DX5 were the codes… the same heads used for various machines like the roland and mimaki….

I`m sure Big Dave will correct me if I wrong

Hi Mo. I would definitely try dampers before heads, they’re a couple of quid each are often the cause of that sort of fault. Julian does have a couple of DX4 solvent heads in stock at the moment as I bought one from him for a customer this week.

When doing dampers, make sure to replace the O ring to as they perish very easily when removing and refitting the damper. If you’re stuck, you’ve got my number, telephone support has always been free, it doesn’t get much cheaper than that 😉
