Ok, Im a complete newbie to this 😮
I was assigned to sign write a fleet of 5 vans.
I’ve got quite a bit of design experience so I thought I’d give it a shot. I had already done the logos and stuff, so the only thing I needed to do was to familiarize with the software (Cuttng Master 2) and get skilled at applying the vinyl. It took a bit of time, but I managed to get a couple of test cuts and they came out ok.
The next step is to acquire some vinyl.
My first question is simple. I know the CMYK and RGB vaues. I’ve never had to deal with Pantone since I’ve always done digital media, and different Pantone guides online give different Pantone codes 😕 What do I use?
Following that is the tricky one, how do I know what colour is going to match the colour I need? Will I need a physical swatch for each Vinyl maker?
And also, How do I know what type of vinyl to use? Where is the best place to buy it from?

Thanks and sorry for being a noob.

Derek, not quite sure how you got a fleet of 5 vans to do but good luck to you.

If you have not used vinyl before then your best bet would be to ring a few suppliers & get some samples. Plenty of suppliers on the toolbar.

You will need to get a set of swatches for what ever brand of vinyl you decide to use, problem is that colours are limited so best to have swatches before you start to design anything unless you are going to digital print everything & then obviously you have a much greater range.

People tend to stick to one Brand rather than lots of different ones for their general sign work so you probably won’t need lots of different manufacturers swatches although sometimes it does come in handy to have a few especially if you have to match the colour of an existing job.
