  • What is causing these stripes??

Posted by Nick Minnery on 6 September 2012 at 14:32

    Hi guys

I’ve noticed, mostly when my SP 540i machine prints certain colours (darker colours mostly) that these lighter stripes appear (see pic) every 3-4 inches across width of print.

It’s most noticable on a fast print.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? I think it’s been doing it since new.

    Thanks for advance

    Nick

Heavy roll of media? Let some out before printing?

Martin, you legend! Thanks mate, that’s exactly what it was 😀

Thanks you too, John, for that suggestion.

I cannot ever leave the spool tight when printing, otherwise I get black lines smudging across the print, it also pulls off-line so I run out of media on one side. Complete PITA if I forget to keep unwinding during the print run. This, however is my one and only complaint about my VC300i.

take the brake off and that should help as well, I used to get it badly but not so much anymore, I found a lot of it was from the take up as well so tape to the take up before it starts printing, I only release the brake on banner media as it’s normally heavy and has lots of static.

Also try adding some tape around the roll holders so that the roll fits nice and snug. I used to be constantly unrolling till I tried it, and now i only need to at the very beginning of my rolls.
