  • Help sourcing a freelance Roland Technician please?

Just joined the board as I have had a bad week with my Roland SP300. I needed a trailing cable replaced as it was creased and kept setting the scan motor alarm off. A simple problem and an easy fix you would think. One call 2 hours maybe?

Not so! I contacted the people I bought my machine from to get a service call. £250 = VAT just to come out and £85.00 an hour in labour. Cut a long story short, subbed me out to another company, 4 visits, broke parts on the machine that were fine previously with a botched repair on the 2nd visit (I can prove this!). Then charged me for those parts and a total of 4.5 hours labour! Making a grand total of £952.00. Staggering when you think that these were bonafide Roland approved companies and I had to keep chasing to find out what was going on!

I spent a total of 8 days unable to print and lost around £2000 in business. Add that to the £952.00 for the repair and I’ve lost around £3000 for using Roland approved repairers. We’re a tiny little business, and that’s a lot of money to lose for a repair that should have cost me about £450.00 and been fixed the same day.

So does anyone have contact details for a West Midlands based "renegade outfit" so I can make sure I deal with a company that understands the needs of a small business and can actually fix a printer without breaking it further!

Many thanks in advance for any help…..

Just a footnote to say that the MD of the company concerned has just rang me to apologise for the problems I experienced and the matter has been resolved fairly and I am very grateful. He saw my posting and cared enough about his customers to make amends for a situation he was not aware of….

What a great forum this is!

Glad you got it sorted Eddie . It’s a pity you had to resort to exposing such a poor service before your problem was resolved. In an ideal world we would all receive good service without the need to expose companies that fail to provide a satisfactory service for what you are paying them to do.

Well done for bringing this up, but I have to wonder would you have been left in limbo if it wasn’t for the fact you were able to describe your experiences here.

That sort of work should have cost (depending on your location) around the £300 mark INCLDUING parts. Obviously I can’t vouch for any other problems that arise whilst working on these machines which does happen from time to time but even so, that’s quite excessive.

It’s good to hear that you got a resolution though, the company concerned should have their management commended for their flexibility, not all companies would do that.

Glad to hear you got it all sorted.
