What did you do on Saturday?
Posted by Steve Morgan on 10 July 2012 at 08:24Sorry about this but I’ve got to tell someone!
Just home from the French Alps after taking part in a cyclo sportive road event called La Marmotte.
In 2008 the ride took me nearly 12 hours to complete – 108 miles with 5000 metres of climbing and descending, the last 8 miles are up the famous nearly constant 1:10 Alpe d’Huez climb.
Quite pleased this year, my 5th attempt, A gold medal time of 8 hours 34 minutes and 52nd in my age class of 240, about 2500th out of the 7000 starters, at least a 1000 don’t finish.Apologies for bragging but I don’t have anyone to tell. 😳

That’s amazing Steve, well done!
Buying a bike here atm (never actually bought a new bike in my life! ) and taking up cycling, can’t walk to keep the weight down anymore because of knee probs. New cycling club here in town, 80 new members in 4 months, must tell them about that challenge as a target maybe. Although they may have to tow me!. 😀 -

quote George Elsmore:I thought i saw you in your cycling attire Harry 😮
Fecking internet, dammed if they don’t find out everything about you! 😀
-
Well Done Steve.
Got myself my first bike in 25 years a few months ago but finding it very difficult to go regularly as it take 2 weeks for my ar$e to recover.
I do enjoy it when I get out but your trip is something else.
-
Well done Steve, great achievement.
I enjoy getting out on my bike. Furthest I’ve done in a day though is only 50 miles!
A friend of mine just did a stage of the Tour de France a day before the professionals, about 120 miles.
My good lady and I are off to France with the bikes next month but I’m sure we won’t be doing anything quite like you 😕Keep up the bragging, it’s allowed at our age 😀

Congratulations, Steve.
That’s something to boast about!!!!
Love….Jill -

That’s amazing stuff Steve
you must be pretty fit to do thatI can only boast I had a bike which was hanging on a hook for 5 years or so
until my son in law asked to borrow it
I gladly parted with it (which was really an excuse for me not getting out more often) -
Thanks for the comments everyone, a couple of pictures here, just arrived. The start of the very fast 40mph + descent from the 2600 metre Col du Galibier, this descent is over 20 miles in length and riders frequently pass cars.
Second picture – one happy finisher, the happy end of 8 months training 😀
A week off and I’ve just started training for next years event

So, more excitement, I was lucky enough to be chosen as a volunteer Field of Play Games Maker for the London Olympics
I spent Saturday and Sunday on the course, on Box Hill in Surrey, for the men and Ladies Road Races.
Pictured here, in my uniform, about to go out onto the course – A fantastic, once in a lifetime experience, and more duties to come before it’s all over. 😀 -
Nice one Steve, hoping to head over for the women’s boxing semi’s next week.
Do you get to keep the uniform? 😀 -
Harry,
Yes all the uniform becomes mine at the end of the games, jacket, shirts trousers, shoes & bag, all from Addidas. I have some duties at the Paralympic Road Races in a few weeks and I’ll get some small additions to my jacket with the Paralympic logo on. Time Trials tomorrow, can’t wait!Is the boxing being held at the Excel centre? If it is make sure you bring a camera, the centre is in the old docks area where some of the old cranes have been preserved and a wonderful London skyline view from one of the footbridges and the new cable car.

Thanks for the tip Steve. I am going to the Excel next Wednesday with my eldest lad and staying at the Ibis just down the road. Will may a point of looking for the bridge and the cable car.
Cheers
