  • ROHS 870 Plotter?

Posted by Phill Fenton on 15 June 2012 at 18:28

My local high school has a plotter called a ROHS 870, I think it’s a chinese made plotter according to google.

One of the teachers has asked me if I know how to set it up and I said I would try and find out. The school has Corel X5.

Anyone have any advice (apart from telling the school to get a branded plotter 😕

Havent a clue phill, but you know what…
I think its a very good idea to have something like a plotter as part of education in schools. its part of why our trade find it so difficult to find staff….

    kids think…
"oh i want to be a plumber"
"i want to be a joiner"
"i want to be an electrician"
    "i want to be a lazy ba*&^rd" 😀

they know zero about how diverse our trade is, how many differnt aspects may appeal to them when they leave school.

anyway… kinda going off subject there. 😳

Sorry, have never heard of it…

Phil…..most Chinese plotters are simply clones…….different names but basically the same….these plotters use standard hpgl drivers…….Roland drivers seem to work well because you can use one that matches you plotter width.

USB connections are usually usb /serial convertors and can be a pain to set up…..old fashioned serial will work just as well but use the supplied lead because there are 2 types.

Blade offset ( nornally 0.25mm on a roland blade ) and overcut can only be set up in the software…..as you know Corel on its own s not going to work…..at the very least a plugin will be needed.

When correctly set up most Chinese cutters are actually very good if a bit noisier than brand name competition.

Rob….I know what you mean but schools now have routers, embroidery machines, laser cutters etc……………..far cry from when I was at school.

    Thanks for your reply John.

Can you recommend a plug in to use?
