well, cutting a long story short, one of my colleagues decided to get a H&S assessment of the building(s). Oh boy! The reason leading up to this will stay in private but I wanted to share this bit with you although I didn’t speak to this guy at all, possibly best I was not there at all!

    Vehicles (we have two vans)

To be checked each day for all fluids and logged, yes that means oil, fuel and general fitness before using them.

There was a load of other stuff but I am glad I didn’t hear it.

Come on Rowland, yev more to say mate… spill the beans! :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

    Joking aside…
It’s easy to go crazy when your in that position Dave.
dont forget you "welcome’d them in" so they are providing you with a service you hired them for.
this doesn’t mean you have to run out and do every single thing they mention. they are simply highlighting different regulations you should consider.
tighten up on as much as you think you should, then by all means ask them to come back, or get another source in to advise.

all that aside, as much as its a pain in the bum, its also good practice.

don’t see an issue with that personally especially if different members of staff are driving them. Lorry drivers have to inspect their unit everyday a lot more thoroughly. Not only from a safety aspect it eliminates the "who done it" when the vans get damaged as any damage would be recorded before the driver took the van out.

Have you been trained to use ladders yet……………. I’m not kidding! My brother works for a small builder, He had to go on a course to learn correct use of a ladder – H&S love it.

On the vehicle side, I have a clip board with a daily sheet attached with tick boxes, driver seems happy enough to spend 2mins ticking boxes before he goes off, I know where your coming from having done H&S for a large printworks, some of the ‘rules’ on paper might be a good idea, but hell to implement.
