As an introduction to proper cutting software. Any advice please?
And no, I don’t have hundreds of £££s to spend 🙁
    Thanks

Signlab also do a starter package and that would be worth a look too. Corel Draw and Illustrator do a good job for origination but do make sure that the particular features you want are included in the starter packages or you may find you are not that much further forward.

Thanks Alan. Just a really good, basic, starter pack would be great. I don’t need to print, just cut. I have seen the Flexistarter for around £70. Which signlab product do you mean, and which is better do you think?

Best bet would be to try them before you buy. Don’t know what you want to do with it but a lot of the starter software available is very limited in what it will allow you to do.
Pointless buying flexi starter if it won’t do what you want it to even if it is cheap.
If you are looking for dedicated sign software then have a look at signlab as Alan has suggested & have a look at Vinylmaster as well. They do a lite version which you can download & try.

As for what software is best, well it is really down to personal choice. You will get lots of different answers from different people.

I purchased Flexi Starter for use on my laptop to do a few thinks while I am away from the office. Works great. It have all the basic tools like the Group, Compound, Mask and create a contour cut as well as design tools. The only thing I have noticed that it does not have when compared to the Entry Flexi Letter product is the ability to create outlines, shadows, you cannot weld items etc. The Effects drop down just has Contour Cut, nothing else

It is a great way to get used to the way Flexi works and can be used for cutting signage, basic design. It works with Illustrator files up to CS 5.5, so you can import as needed.

Additionally,it has the Send to VersaWorks as well, so you can produce printed jobs into VersaWorks if you have a Roland printer.

In my view, a great place to start for little cash and also a great stopgap for those times you need to design something but don’t need the full functionality of the pricier product.

Worked with the Flexi Family since the early 90’s and still love it, but as Marin said above, it comes down to personal choice.

that said, Flexi is also a very popular and powerful software. i have never heard any complaints i can think of so do not rule it out either, i just do not have any experience on that software sorry.

Artcut is normally shipped with Chinese cutters……….not used it myself but from what I have read it is ok for basic vinyl cutting.

if Artcut does not have a specific Graphtec driver then a standard hpgl driver should work…………worth checking this with Artcut/Graphtec before you buy though.
