capillary action and the negative pressure created as the piezoelectric head fires the ink droplets out.

Google or wiki – ink jet head or similar I’m sure there’ll be something

I googled "how do print heads work" but it was telling me about the nozzles spraying ink onto the paper but nothing about the inside workings. Thanks for shedding some light on this for me. Videos would be best though lol

does it not seem strange to any one else that your changeing ur heads and u dont no any thing about the inside workings ? no offence meant and im a great believer in get in give it go then if all fails call the engineer but u really should have looked things up first .

heads sit on a cap station a platform that forms a seal the pump is below via tubing which sucks not pumps the ink from the head through the cap station to clean the head and nozzles in head
so in effect it sucks straight from the ink cartridges down the pipes through the dampers in to head through head in to cap then down in to waste ink tanks /bottle. at least that how mutoh works ive only ever took 3 printers to bits a rock hopper a value jet and a epson 1800 and all work the same way

most problems with heads like a nozzle not working or blocked or dirty prints or a colour missing altogether can be cured by taking it to bits around the print head station and then clean the head with a sponge on end of stick u no the things i mean with some isoproanol , then look at the ink pipes see if u see a air bubble it there is attach a big syringe to the waste pipes and put the head on cap station making it seal and then suck with syringe it will suck air out the pipes ect and force head to free up any nozzles but of course if head is scratched or any thing nothing will help .

why are u changing heads have tried cleaning them thoroughly ie a soak in isopropanol then suction ?.just a thought but our spandex engineer showed us these things when we had our rockhopper and ive fixed our value jet a few times now and now our epson

But the capping station and pump are only used when the head is sealed onto the caps not when it is printing! That’s why I wanted to know about the inside workings of the heads.

    to simplify…

the printer works like a blood drip system from hospital, the bag up high and the ink goes towards the heads. There is a small tank (damper) that holds and filters a small amount of ink. The head has small chambers that compress and fires ink out of a hole, like squeezing a zit!

The pumps and waste/caps are to seal the heads from drying up, the pumps suck the ink thru the heads to keep the ink from going stale and bad.
