Advice on bevelling machine
Posted by james huggins on 5 March 2012 at 21:45Hi, can anyone recommend a bevelling machine? I have looked around but they all seem to be for metals, I need to bevel 1.5mm and 3mm laminate

Varga probably make some of the finest bevellers around – but stupidly expensive.

Best I’ve came across Gravograph B6

Hmm making one seems the way to go
Just came across this from dremel, this could work

Making one using a router is fine depending on what you’re going to be doing with it and what material. The upside-down router types are fine for wood (we use one here regularly) and has the added benefit of being able to use different profile cutters to produce different edging to panels.
For finer work brass/traffolite/acrylic etc we use a proper bevelling machine. The main reasons are it’s a finer machine and tends to make a smoother bevel. We also have a cutter grinder so we can keep the cutters in tip-top condition which makes a better job. The cutter points downwards and therefore the material is essentially sandwiched between the cutter and the machining table giving a more consistent pressure. The material is slid across the work table face up and therefore doesn’t get scuffed or marked if there is a grain under it.
I think it’s horses for courses depending on the work type. For any engraving work/materials I’d go for the bevelling machine. Either way I’d always use TCT cutters.
BTW that B6 machine comes with a set of templates that enable you to create radius corners on the panels. In the past we’ve made literally hundreds of ID pass tags and radiused the corners on them all – no problem and very quickly.

Thanks Neil that’s given me something to think about.
Nearly all my work is Rigid Laminate for the electrical industry. 1.5mm
I have just had a quote from Gravograph and yes they aren’t cheap at all!
Not sure I can justify spending that much at them moment but cutting them all on my cnc with a v bit is time consuming. They don’t seem to come up much secondhand either

Quite often listed on fleebay. Or you could try this folk who do reconditioned machinery.
