    Hi,

Has anyone any experience/tips for mounting vinyl onto mdf?

We have a few boards to mount which are double sided, full colour laminated print one side, plain matt vinyl the other.

Do we need to prime the mdf with anything?

    Thanks.

    Chris.

hi chris i had double sided mdf sign units to do, tested one with primer and one without, the one without primer was best, i just cleaned mdf properly mounted vinyl then ran it through the laminator to give it some heat and the vinyl stuck perfectly 😀

did a very similar job the other day… printed on LG Ultratac from APS, then laminated it… worked very well.

In the past we have PVA’d the MDF before mounting print. I see this board every few months (indoors) and its fine.

must be smooth tho, it will bump a little

    Thank Nik and Dave.

I did wonder about the pva but will give them a try untreated.

Almost any vinyl sticks to MDF. On uncertain surfaces, an adhesive promoter, in an Aerosol or in bulk 4L tins and sprayed can be bought. On MDF I use the promoter on alledges, does not fail, ifyou try remove vinyl, it will shred the surface of the MDF.
