  • 3M wrapping vinyl, when is the new range out?

Posted by Chris Foster on 17 February 2012 at 11:45

Hi all, i’ve only ever used 3M 85 series for wrapping vehicles and since they have halted production due a a new range being released (not sure of the model range) I have held fire doing any wraps. However they (William Smith) seem to keep on putting the date back and back (through no fault of their own i’m sure), initially was going to be Jan but now its back to April? Does anyone have any different info or a more definitive date?

If there is still no definite date etc what would a good alternative to 3M be? Ive tried hexis and found it ‘ok’ but still not as easy as using the 3M?

    Thanks

    Taken from William Smith News:

A vehicle wrapping area will feature three work-stations where visitors can try their own hand at applying colour change and digital printing films, including 3M and Arlon wrapping films for surfaces with deep recesses and for gently curved surfaces, as well as our new brand of solid colour wrapping film.

Note it says new brand? May give them a call Monday and see if that should say range or not?

With reference to the new 3M range I think they do have some brushed aluminium effect ones available and the new matt black as well (think is called 1080 range? or maybe not as it is late so i excuse myself if wrong). We have had samples of the new 3M matt black and it is a proper matt finish unlike the 85 series which was more like satin black in our opinion.

    Ian.

the new 3M replacement for the 85 Series is called 1080 Series.
one unique feature about this film in the MATT version is… "it does not go shiny when over stretched" something all others do. i.e. losses its Matt appearance.

anyway, i am not very clued up on their new media, but i do know this is a feature of it, s well as some very nice colours within the range, which i do have, and also have seen some that may follow.

It’s been out for a while. Wrapped an Audi TT in the matt black a couple of weeks ago.

    Hi there

We are waiting for 2 new matt colours to add to the others which we hope to get in the next few days, Matte Dark Grey & Matte Grey Aluminium and 1 new addition to the brushed…….black Metallic.

Still no news as to when the Gloss range arrives.

    Hope that helps

That’s weird. In my country the 1080 range is already sold for a couple of months. We did two VW Transporters with the white gloss one in the beginning of december.
Since then I also used the alu brushed one and black matt.

I found it very nice to work with, more conformable and easier to apply, compared the avery supreme wrapping range.
