Creating a chequer pattern were the cheques get smaller?
Posted by Stephen Morriss on 15 February 2012 at 16:51I’m trying to fade from solid white cut vinyl to the paint colour using a grid or chequer pattern that grows smaller, kind of like a fade but in cut vinyl.
So you start off with a normal chequer pattern but then each row the squares get smaller and the gap grows until you end up with all gap and no squares.
I’ve tried drawing it in Corel but I’m having trouble getting it right so has anyone done this or is there a technique of formula?
Regards

used to be a program called the rastorbator, worth a look
Its easy in Corel, create a dot say 10mm, hit plus on keyboard, make shape 9.5mm then hold control button and drag to one side. Then just hit control D and the circles get progressively smaller as you do

I don’t use corel so this might not be an option for you but is there not a perspective effect you could use in corel?? If I were doing it I would first create the block of squares all the same size then using the perspective effect get it to reduce in size.

Wow, now there’s a lot of replies 😮
For some reason I never got an email notification about the replies so thanks for the suggestions.
I’ll try attaching the coreldraw file that I’ve done so far, I tried 2 ways and I used the blend tool but still need to fine tune it.
I’ll also look at the links suggested, thanks

Here’s the Coreldraw file, X5. I can post a pdf if you’d prefer.
This one’s nearly there but still need some work on the spacing
