    Hey Everyone,

About two and abit years ago we built a dedicated print and finishing room combined. 70 square metres which is now too small.

The old thread is here: http://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … highlight=

We are now building a dedicated finishing room that is 120 square metres in size.

The old 70 square metre room will be transformed to a print only room.

Can people show me your finishing rooms? I am trying to design our room so that we can have up to 5 finishing staff working simultaneously getting larger jobs out the door. I want benches on wheels etc. We also have a forklift now so making it high enough for the forklift to enter and pick up pallets etc.

The only shops I’ve seen have been on you tube.

We have already ordered supplies so construction starts this weekend. Hopefully this lasts us a while or I will have to buy next door.

Any pictures are appreciated I will also keep you guys upto date with construction.

    Jason

hm, not forgetting that your business Jason is mass-stickers mainly mate. However it should be the same rotation… Print > Finish > Pack (nearest the doors)

Out of interest Jason have you looked into the ideal shape for what you want to do, just felt that your old print finish room seemed to have a lot of wasted space. Maybe due to the fact that it was quite long & fairly narrow.
If it had been shorter & wider you might have been able to double up on equipment & got more usable space.

Thats how its going to work. Comes from upstairs comes into the print room. Goes into the finishing room swings out into the packaging area and into courier pickup etc.

The current room was designed a certain width so we could still make use of the factory space for vehicles. Having it wider wasn’t an option if we wanted space for vehicles. The length could have been longer but came down to cost. We are now building the back portion of the factory for this room with a roller door so in the event we need space for more vehicles we can utilise that space if we have any left over. The current room doesn’t have any wasted space. We can barely walk around equipment. This current room will be used only for printers now and is wired up to accommodate 12 printers in 60 inch width. It will also be used to keep stock at the right temperature for printing. We also have a printer and more finishing equipment in the general factory area because we can’t fit it in the room.

Initially we were only going to extend the print room in length so to add another 50 square metres of room. But I wanted to plan further ahead in the future instead of just planning for the next year or two. The 120 square metres is tones of space for what we need at the moment.

I just wanted to see larger shops finishing rooms to see what they have in there. Our finishing room will be modular so to speak so we can tackle larger contract jobs without having a rigid setup. I’ve never been in a really big shop that say employees 20-30 people to see what its like. But that’s what I’m aiming for.
