I want to create some curved text for an alloy wheel rim.

I’ve given it some thought, and my plan is to draw a 17" circle, and then bend text to fit tightly against this so when I go to fit them, they should be curved correctly. Am I on the right lines with my method?

Leads me on to wonder about curved graphics for wheel arches etc. Do people use vehicle outline software to gauge the correct curve ange? For general ad hoc signage, does the imaginary circle outline technique I thought up get used or are there any other tips that I haven’t thought of?

What software are you using Daniel?? I lot of programs will have something like text on an arc & text to path tools where the text will automatically follow the line you draw.
As for text on wheel arches not sure if it is something people would generally do. Can’t actually think of a reason why you would want to put text round a wheel arch but if you wanted to then it would probably work fine from a vrhicle outline.

I have put a customer’s web address round a wheel arch on a Navara. It fitted with the design and looked pretty good. I did it from a photo of the wheel arch scaled up (used the known diameter of the 18" wheel as scale).

Daniel – I seem to recall you asking a question regarding CorelDraw in the past so assuming this is for CD.

Just as a simple TRIAL draw a circle – any size. Then type up some text making sure it is relatively proportional to your circle so that it will fit.

Select the text and the circle –
From the top menu select [Text] then ‘Fit text to path’

That’s the basics. There are a good many parameters that will allow you to determine how it fits to the path – play around with the trial and you’ll see how it works in no time flat.

You can also do it by drawing your circle, select the text tool and then hover over the outline until the cursor changes to an A with with what looks like an ‘s’ on it’s side. Click. Then type your text along the path and adjust using the settings on the toolbar. When happy, select all, then go Arrange and ‘break text apart’ and then delete the circle. This method gives you a bit more control imo.

Some great methods, Thanks. I am using CD yes.

I agree, the likely hood of someone wanting something to contour to their wheel arches is unlikely, but I am trying to experiment with random ideas like this for Justin Case.

A better example would have been the dart board at my local which has vinyl lettering surrounding it in the perfect circle size.

I will play with the methods suggested and see which I can get on with best 😀
