  • Contravision Not Sticking To Window

Posted by Noel Moore on 11 January 2012 at 14:54

Hi Guys. I applied Contravision to the rear window of a Skoda Octavia 2 days ago. We applied it dry and it appeared to be fine when the client collected the vehicle. However, today he returned and there was a number of "channel creases" on the contravision. I don’t understand why it is coming away from the window as there was no wet involved in the application. Any advice on how to fix this problem and how to prevent it happening to any job in the future? Thanks.

Temperature this time of year tends to be an issue. Also if you have over stretched the Contravision whilst fitting this can cause problems as I have found that the material wants to sit naturally.

Sounds as though the window is a bit too curved, maybe try some heat on it?

Hi Kev. We had to stretch the Contravision to fit the curve of the glass.

The car is a Skoda Octavia TDi. We did have to apply heat to get it to fit the curve, but not much. Do you think it might be the contravision could it be past its shelf life
you never know how long its been laying around before you get it from the supplier
and I know we have it a least two years? Also, whats your view on laminating it?
thanks for your help, its much appreciated.. Noel

    Hi

We find film laminating it will only exaggerate the effect you are getting (but that might be down to tension on our laminator). We have switched to using a liquid laminate on one way vision film and have found it works better.

The adhesive isn’t very grabby on this film and we have found that post heating helps with ensuring it stays on and you don’t get the finger creases, also you have to set realistic expectations to the customer as to what curves are too much for the material – we’ve found anything more than just a gentle curve and it wont work.

    Cheers

Sounds like it may be too old as you suspect, doesn’t it only have a 2 year life-or less, can’t quite remember.

in my experience doin contravision i find masking it prior to fitting helps loads and when you apply a little heat it stops the circular holes becoming oval ones its a big help!!
