Help converting cs5 files to cs or .ai10

Hello all

I am starting to get in quite a few cs5 files from customers that seem to be incompatible with ai10 or cs.

Is there any sort of online or offline converter or plug in available for doing this?

( I am not ready to spend another grand on updating software, indeed feel a bit cheated that I cannot keep using my perfectly good program, I am not convinced by the new "Features" available, and I dont like the look of cs. )

Simon I normally ask customers to save it as an older version when they want to send me Illustrator or Photoshop files. Or you could also ask them to send it as a PDF which seems to be the standard format with a lot of places.

Hi Simon,

Following a suggestion from someone on here I think, I have managed to place a CS5 file into my CS4 (not saying it would work every time) – whether would work back to CS1 not sure, but maybe worth a try.

it could be that the file is compressed, i’m not sure but i think Ai 10 had no compression , you could ask the customer to saveAs without compression.

it pretty much has to be saved as an earlier version from cs5

you can mail it to me and i can back save it for you

Thanks for all the tips.
I think I will probably need to upgrade, if there is no workaround.
I have been asking customers for legacy versions, or pdfs, but they always forget and I feel quite embarassed asking for this from them.
I can’t expect them to remember this every time they deal with little old me, still living back in the days when Adobe was some kind of mud-based building product…

I think I’ve cracked it!

Here’s how. It seems to work every time out of a sample of seven.

On the mac…

Open in NEO OFFICE (open source software free to download)

Export as .eps

it will export as version 10

PS My version of neo office is about four years old
I am not going to upgrade it as this might start saving as a later version and block off this workaround….

Simon, not quite sure why you have a problem asking customers to save as an earlier version. I do it when I have to and don’t have a problem with it at all. Way I look at it is different people use different software to design so I would have to keep lots of different programs that I never used fully up to date just incase someone wanted to send me a file. I can’t justify that sort of expense and I doubt if any of my customers would expect me to either.
