    Hey guys

I’m just doing a little bit of research as to whether other sign makers get contracts signed over lengthy periods or just for one off jobs.

I’m trying to sort out my paperwork so i can progress with getting larger clients but at the moment i tend to deal with sole traders to very small companies and they tend to be startups.

Currently i’m getting proofs signed for those individual items, it says nothing about price, it just states that the design is right and to go ahead, price is worked out via a quote and all they have is a short paragraph at the bottom stating that items must be paid in full otherwise the item still belongs to me, 50% needs paying upfront before work will begin etc, nothing major, just basic stuff but i’m starting to think i’m not doing it right.

I would like to start applying for clients like the local school / council / medium sized businesses etc and although i don’t think i’m capable yet, i want to put the ground work in now ready for when i am.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have general T&C’s on the back of all my quotes.

I quote for the job and ask that it is either signed, or reply to the e-mail confirming the price is correct and that they agree to the T&C’s.

Artwork, I send again and get written or signed proofs.

First time customers I get cash up front, some existing/larger/decent customers I give credit too. I am reluctant to give new customers credit, and it seems that if they pay first once, they instinctively do it again and again.

Also consider gettinng you Risk Assessments & Method statements, Work Permits etc in order , fine you get the job then all that stuff has to be dealt with Local Authorities and Larger outfits who are HSE aware. regards Graham

Thanks Graham, didn’t even think about that, where do even start with that?

David, would you mind posting you t&c’s DIY us as I’d be grateful so that I could use or even reword for my own use, just gives us who have nothing a place to start. Dam

Daniel. Try doing a search on the forum as someone did post a very good set of Terms & Conditions for other members to download some time ago. Sorry I’m rubbish at searching or would put up a link.
You might want to try searching for the other stuff as it’s all been discussed before.
