  • advice on ink types please?

Posted by Jonathan Wallace on 1 November 2011 at 21:37

I currently use a leased Roland Soljet sc545ex. I am now starting up my own company and would prefer to own my equipment rather than pay high monthly lease costs.
I have the opportunity to purchase a Roland Hi-Fi Jet 6 colour dye or pigment printer. At a good price. Any advice?
i.e what are the main differences between inks and finish also does this impact on the medias available.

All depends what you are wanting the printer to do Jonathan. What sort of work are you doing now and do you hope to be doing the same work once you set up on your own??
Dye/pigment machines are really only suitable for indoor use and you will be more limited on the type of media you can print onto. As eco solvent and solvent printer prices have dropped quite a lot over the last few years I can only see the choices of media available for dye/pigment printers shrinking further.

Might be best for you to buy your prints in to start with from a trade printer and then look at buying a machine once you have grown that side of the business to a level where it would pay you to do it in house.
