Graphtec CE60 minimum cutting size?
Posted by Brian Little on 25 September 2011 at 09:21Hi .I was asked to letter a die cast model truck for a haulage company i do work for . The lettering is 4mm but to be honest its very pure in quality . tried turning down the cutters speed thought that might help but no .Is it just a case that its reached its limit or a setting ive just not got quite right .My roland seemed to be able to cut to this no problem 😕

sadly Brian its a fact the roland drivers are a bit better at small stuff, do you still have the versacamm.
the graphtec when doing small sub 10mm is very dependent on the font used some are fine some rubbish.
when driven by say SL should be better than the standard drivers
things that help
polish the cutting strip with mrsheen or similar
pinch rollers as close together as possible
new blade etc. -

new blade etc.also cut further up the vinyl, not at the front edge, i.e 100-150mm away from the front edge. When the vinyl cuts at the front edge it buckles a bit leading to poor cutting.
Also Reverse weed, ( by sticking the unweeded decal onto the truck then weed the excess)Ian

good points Ian
one more
if the vinyl has a thin backing paper like most casts then photo-mount the vinyl backing to a bit of card before cutting

As has been said above, good tips.
good clean cut letters as small as that will always be lower quality if some things arent followed by the book to get your machines best performance.
New sharp blade.
Cutting strip should have no damage.
do test cuts to get correct cut pressure.
Slow down your cutter.
[Important] Set the machine to cut in "Tangental" mode.
Apply the vinyl to the substrate "then weed"..

thank you people for advice .it is as near as dam a new machine but when i got it, stuck a new blade in it anyway .Think i can count on my hand how many times ive been asked to cut at this size . Hopefully i wont be asked for a long time .The lettering on the truck is ok …customer seems happy with it, but you know within yourself it could look better .Mabe if a job arises again ill plug my old roland in and get back to SL 4.95 in the words of tina turner "its simply the best"
thanks again ..Regards Brian

nothing wrong with signlab 4.95 and it should also run graphtec cutters no sweat mate.
software here shouldn’t be the issue, ide bet its down to settings. one change you should check that will increase accuracy no end is to set it to cut in Tangental mode. check your booklet on the cutter, its a simple quick setting change.

Sometimes leaving the text unweeded overnight allowing time for the vinyl to relax back can make weeding tiny fiddly text easier.
