supplier of cut to size vinyl stripes
Hi All
need to purchase rolls of vinyl stripe but can not seem to find a supplier.
the person i have used in the past is no longer able to supply.
i seem to remember someone on here having the kit to do them but can not remember or find who.
i require
5mm burnt orange/oxford Ochoa (last ones where a ritarama vinyl)
18mm black .
any help appreciated

use hexis all the time and did not know they offered that service.
just spoken to them and they can only cut down to 10mm, any others?

Not sure how narrow they go but we have had rolls slit by Robert Horne in the past.

Try Cheryl Tissington, ive had vinyl from her in the past. dont know if she does that wide tho.

ritrama has 5 entries of supplier on the toolbar under, "UKSuppliers – Vinyl by brand"
most of the larger suppliers have vinyl slitting facilities, others sub it out.
ive purchased 7 full rolls of coloured vinyl. each 48inch wide and slit down to .5 inch varying upto 2inch wide over the 7 rolls and got them within 48hrs from robert horne.
wm smiths do ritrama, and im pretty sure they will do their own roll slitting in-house.

Metamark, I have had 3mm rolls from them before, but only ever asked for their own brand. Next day delivery.

Sorry to ask but what are you doing with few mm width rolls? What kind of jobs?

lining 1950’s railway carriages
my hobby is restoring heritage trains, steam locos and carriages, my sign skills get called upon by other groups who also do this, thats what the strip is for

coming along well, thanks for asking.
For those that dont know i broke both my legs working on said heritage trains 3 months ago 🙄
I have what they call external fixatures on both legs which is 3 pins screwed into good bone ether side of the brake and a bar holding them together.
much better that being in plaster and quicker to heal too.i fractured my thumb too but iam told that does not count 😮 , hand is out of plaster now so all good on that front.
the average recovery time is 20 weeks and i am at 12 so a little way to go yet bet i am back at work as much as i can and can walk baby style with out my crutches, worst thing is not being able to drive 🙁

Bloody hell Paul.
Hope your recovery goes well… it drove me mad when I broke my ankle, a few years ago.
Luckily I was in the Navy back then and continued to get paid laid up in bed at home.. then returned to base, got a draft on the base for a few months, and some physio.
Sadly they couldn’t fix me quick enough and the lack of doing anything irritated some older injuries… which meant I didn’t need to run a fitness test again for the remainder of my career. :lol1:
I always try to find a positive side to everything!

just to bring you up to date on this job and prompted by robs cut thumb thread i will post the results and say thank you.
the stripe i required where 19mm and 9mm. hexis only cut down to 10mm.
so as the two stripes sit together on the carriage i have had the one cut at 28mm and then the other 19mm strip will be laid on top creating a 9mm stripe if that makes sense.so thank you to all who helped, problem solved.
as a aside and for those interested i now only have one broken leg 😀
yesterday i had the metal work removed from my right leg as it has healed.
two weeks time will see the metal work removed from the left leg also. 😀 😀Paul

Paul, just out of interest how long were these stripes?? Reason I ask is because Hexis used to do a small hand held cutter for doing pin stripes, only about 3 inch wide so you needed a thinnish roll of vinyl to start with but would cut stripes at any thickness you set the blade to. I have one knocking about somewhere, was OK for doing short lengths but I found it difficult to produce long stripes and keep the thickness of them uniform.
Must see if I can find it and post a picture.Good to hear your on the mend, just wait until the arthritis kicks in as you get older. Still must be a relief now they have taken the scaffolding off one of your legs :lol1: :lol1:
Mine was done with internal rods, no bone left to knit back together 😳

martin – the stripes i had off Hexis were 25m, the carriages are 21m so great for this job. i know the stripe slitter you are talking about but can well imagine they would not be to good on this length, more suited to shorter stripes.

Yes spot on Paul, for short lengths they are OK but the problem with cutting long stripes is that it is very easy to go off line a bit as your pulling the vinyl through by hand which makes it almost impossible to produce very long lengths with a uniform depth. Probably with enough practice you could do it but I use to stick to lengths no more than about 5 metres tops :lol1: :lol1:
