    Heys guys

I’m gonna attempt to put my first window graphics on at my studio in the next day or so, and i’m just interested to know the best possible way.

Chris has helped me but that was a month or so ago and i just wanted to confirm everything to limit mistakes.

What do i clean the windows with first?

I’ve got a hard squeegee thing with a handle as recommended by Chris (Great by the way) to put the frosted vinyl material on, and would i use just a normal squeegee to put vinyl on or use the same tool (Oracal 751), do i just spray the window with water mixed with a bit of johnsons baby fluid and then apply starting from the middle working out to the edge for the frosted material? Also do you guys trim it to size i.e. on the vinyl cutter or just get a blade and cut it while it’s on the window.

Also When applying vehicle graphics, before i put the vinyl on, what products should i be using to clean / prep the vehicle and where can i purchase these without buying a massive tub at first?

    Thanks guys, much appreciated.

it’s really hard to get meths nowadays so we use avery surface cleaner for preping vehicles and glass .it is expensive but works

    Hi Dan,

I would use meths or similar to clean the glass then mix a drop of
washing up liquid with some water to apply the frosted wet. Only a small
drop of washing up liquid or the frosted will slide all over the place and
    slip down the window.

You can do the same with the vinyl, I’d then use a fluffy block squeegee,
mactac or similar as this won’t scratch the surface.

I prefer to cut the frosted oversize and cut on the window.

Vehicle prep – I’ve used meths for years and avery surface cleaner. Always a good
idea to test clean a small area of the vehicle if using meths, especially if your dealing with a fresh paint job.

Cherwell still sell meths 5ltr, can’t remember the cost though, BREWERS also sell meths + B&q etc although you may want to try a cleaner from Jag or grafityp, etc, etc so many out there.

    Hope this helps

Hi thanks for that link .i was told by my rep years ago that they had stopped selling meths in 5 litre containers because of some silly health and safety law

I presume its the correct stuff. I know you can get the smaller bottles in B&Q and the alike.

Hi Dan, use water with a drop of Johnson’s baby shampoo. Wet glass and use a triumph 6 inch stainless steel scraper. Only use one way and change blades frequently. By pulling the blade back along its path can scratch the glass..

Wet again and squeegee dry. Repeat as you feel necessary. White Scotch cloths are also used with soapy water to clean glass thoroughly, again, squeegee down, you cannot clean the glass enough.

Wet and apply film, you know the rest

    Thanks guys.

I’ve now put on my first window graphics at it looks great, just wish i changed the colour of my vinyl now as you can’t see my text that clearly. I thought pink vinyl would show up great with a frosted background, I didn’t think about my red blinds when their closed, doh.

Chris, that frosted material you gave me, was that from spandex or did you just put that in the box? seemed to go on great so thought i would get some more to finish off the job, The edge on the second window is perfect, thanks for your advice.

Bought a new van now, well old van, been driving around for eges with no signage so going to try a part wrap, a bright pink back that blends in with the logo at the sides, just need to design it now ha ha.
