  • Help needed securing carbon stake to di-bond

Hi Guys, anyone know of a good method to secure a round carbon stake to the back of 3mm di-bond without having to screw right through the di-bond?

The stake is about 15mm in diameter and can be drilled through, ideally I want to be able to secure the di-bond to the stake after it’s been driven in the ground.

Maybe a good glue to secure a few bolt threads to the back so that wing nuts can be used?

Anyone done anything like this before?

    Cheers

Mo why carbon rods ? Wouldn’t have thought these would have been ideal for what you want. Carbon splinters very easily so be careful when handling it as the splinters are a flippin nuisance.
Can’t think of an ideal way to secure them off the top of my head without putting something through the face of the sign, if you can do that then "D" clips would work. Will give it a bit more thought but you might have been better with some other sort of pole.

not stuck on carbon rods, but they are pretty cheap and light. I use them for my telescopic flags, and mine havent splintered yet…… thought they would be good for the job, unless anyone else has ideas…..?

Obviously not stuck on Mo or you wouldn’t be asking how to attach them would you :lol1: :lol1:

OK so you have used them for other things but are the telescopic flags rammed into the ground? Carbon fibre tends to only have it’s strength in one direction so wouldn’t have thought these would be ideal but I#m not an expert on such things so could easily be wrong.
How cheap do they need to be? If you used something like right angled steel or ally then I would have thought they would last longer and could be fixed using VHB or rivets which wouldn’t notice so much on the sign face.

lol that should read, I’m not stuck on using carbon rods…. The ones i use for my flags I hammer in the ground with a wooden mallet, they stand up to that quite well..

I want to provide the client something that looks neat and unobtrusive, so i don’t think steel angle will cut it….. the rods will look great.

I’m also not really liking the idea of the pot rivets as the front of the sign is brushed alley di-bond and quite small, i want it to look clean…. acctually i wonder if a resin glue may do the job?

problem is Mo with them being round and only 15mm dia there isn’t a lot to bond them to anything especially if you want them to last.
Might be able to use something like a "D" clip and bond the rod and the clip to the back of the board. That way they would have a fair bit of surface contact & stay on much better.
