apply reverse printed graphics onto the back of acrylic
Hi Everyone,
I need advice on how to apply reverse printed graphics onto the back of acrylic sheeting. I dry mount the graphic and put it through the laminator. The problem is you could see silvering on some parts of the graphic. Has anyone any suggestions as to how to avoid this?

The silvering should disappear in a few days if not hours!

Are you using optically clear adhesive? or another way round is to reverse print onto clear SAV then back up with white vinyl and apply wet.

Thanks Mike. Would wet mounting improve the "silvering" problem? I have 19 prints to mount on 1300mm x 900mm 5mm Clear Acrylic and it is more obvious where there is solid colour.

Wet mounting will help but then you have handling and storage issues whilst they dry.
Try one dry and leave for 24 hours and see what happens, then do another one to compare with. It never bothers me for most things and the majority of customers wouldn’t know the difference anyway. -
I have 500 panels to do tomorrow and i will wet apply then run through a laminator this is what i have done in the past and it works fine

Personally I would never put a wet mounted print through my laminator. Hand application with a good gold 3m applicator will do the trick? Electrics & water mate – think about it!!!

use a cast clear mpi 1040 etc, should be acrylic based material and apply with water only this should give you good results

I fitted 4 images to the reverse of Perspex last Friday. Applied wet & by Sat monring they were dry as a bone. Looked fab to, with no silvering whatsoever.
Static is your biggest enemy when fitting to acrylic though 👿
